The Young and the Restless viewers know that Phyllis Summers is down right now, but don’t count her out. She’s finally ripped off the adhesive strip and turned herself in for faking her own death. For her performance, Soap Hub Performer of the Week honors for Y&R is presented to Phyllis’s portrayer, Michelle Stafford.
Michelle Stafford: Y&R Performer of the Week
This week Stafford hit all the right notes as Phyllis. She showed up stealthily wearing a disguise, and the actress did an excellent job sneaking around as her on-screen alter ego spoke with her children and lawyer.
Perhaps where Stafford shined most, though, was when Phyllis walked into the suite at the Genoa City Athletic Club, thinking she’d see Michael (Christian Le Blanc) and stopping short when she realized it was Tucker (Trevor St. John). The actress did a great job showing her character’s shock, and then later, she revealed Phyllis’s reluctance to agree to Tucker’s conditions that she distract Diane (Susan Walters). After all, her vendetta against Diane was the reason she was in this sticky legal situation in the first place, so Phyllis really needed to think through her options. Of course, she really needed the EMT, and Tucker had paid him off, so she quickly realized what she had to do.
When Phyllis got another major shock in the form of Heather (Vail Bloom) showing up to represent her in place of Michael, we loved seeing how Stafford went through the process of Phyllis being stuck in a tough position. Once again, she didn’t have many options, but Phyllis still took a bit of time to work through all the implications. Ultimately, she hired Heather and then went downstairs to face the music all the while still managing to maintain her Phyllis swagger.
Bravo, Michelle Stafford, on excellent performances this week. We can’t wait to see what happens next!
