The Young and the Restless viewers know that Nikki Newman loves her husband Victor and their children, Victoria and Nick. Recently, she’s been concerned about Victor’s relationship with his son Adam, and she’s stepped up to take on a new role as CEO of Newman Media. For her performance, Soap Hub Performer of the Week honors for Y&R are presented to Nikki’s portrayer, Melody Thomas Scott.
This week, Nikki made some big decisions. She accepted Victor’s (Eric Braeden) offer to become CEO of Newman Media, and as such, she started making plans. Nikki let Audra (Zuleyka Silver) know in no uncertain terms that she had to break things off with Kyle (Michael Mealor) if she wanted to stay on as COO. The actress really showed off Nikki’s business and leadership skills in the scenes with the younger woman. She made it clear Nikki wouldn’t put up with any nonsense because she could see through Audra’s fake attitude.
Perhaps one of Thomas Scott’s best scenes this week came when Nikki asked Kyle (Michael Mealor) to the ranch. She firmly took him to task for carrying on with Audra instead of working on his relationship with her granddaughter, Summer (Allison Lanier). Again, Thomas Scott showed off Nikki’s no-nonsense side with great facial expressions and a firm tone. Of course, she softened a bit and actually listened to Kyle’s reasons for not being able to forgive Summer.
It was wonderful to see the actress back in the swing of business, giving Nikki something to do besides worry about her children and grandchildren, or being Diane’s (Susan Walters) nemesis. Bravo Melody Thomas Scott on an excellent performance this week. We can’t wait to see what Nikki does next in her new role at Newman Media — that is, if Victor doesn’t somehow change his mind soon and shake things up.
