Longtime viewers of The Young and the Restless know that Billy Abbott has had his share of reckless days. However, he didn’t overreact after finding out that Ashland Locke was moving into the same house with his ex-wife Victoria and their children Johnny and Katie. For his role as a former screwup, who’s been showing great maturity and compassion, Soap Hub bestows Performer of the Week honors for The Young and the Restless upon Jason Thompson.

Billy (Jason Thompson) is above all else a devoted father so, he stepped forward and let Ashland and Victoria know about the concerns he has over a stranger, who’s dying, coming to live with his ex and their kids.

Billy took the high road on The Young and the Restless, however, telling Ashland Locke (Richard Burgi) that he’s both sorry over what he’s going through and is glad that he’s happy that he and Victoria Newman (Amelia Heinle) have each other — for as long as it lasts. Later, he recapped to Lily Winters (Christel Khalil) that he feels for Ashland who is not only dying but discovered that his biological son, Harrison, wasn’t really his.

“I”m surprised by my level of maturity,” said Billy only half in jest, hastening to thank Lily for this pointed growth. Next, Billy had the opportunity to show additional maturity when he surmised that his son Johnny’s (Holden and Ryan Hare) illness was related to the changes going on in his mom’s personal life. Victoria concurred with Billy as to why Johnny wasn’t feeling well.

Billy and Victoria had a frank discussion about her relationship with Ashland. While the old Billy might have overreacted to Vicki living with another man while their kids are at formative ages, Billy showed great compassion noting that his ex and Ashland don’t have much time together.

“If you’re happy, I’m happy,” Billy told Victoria. “Look at us,” he added. “All grown up.” Later, Billy filled Lily in on his conversation with Victoria. He sweetly told her Vicki and Ashland’s situation has made him realize how lucky he is because he has Lily.

Next, Billy ran into another old flame — Sharon Newman Rosales (Sharon Case) – at Crimson Lights. While Billy has matured, he maintained his steadfast disapproval of Adam Newman. Billy and Sharon sparred over Adam’s presence in the coffee shop. Sharon challenged Billy to see that Adam may not be the person he thinks he is. Alas, while Billy’s matured in some ways, he’s likely never to change his mind about Adam on The Young and the Restless.

Sharon questioned Billy as to why he felt he was capable of change but Adam isn’t? After all, Sharon noted, Adam saved her daughter Faith Newman (Reylynn Caster) on two different occasions. Billy responded by reminding Sharon that while Adam may have saved her daughter twice he’s responsible for taking the life of his — forever.

Jason Thompson brings great complexity to his performances as Billy on The Young and the Restless showing that while he’s a man who can show maturity and change, he’ll also never move on from losing his beloved Delia.
