The Young and the Restless viewers know that Sally Spectra will do whatever she has to do to make it in this world. She relies almost solely on herself, which sometimes can be an issue for her, especially now that she’s unexpectedly pregnant. For her performance, Soap Hub Performer of the Week honors for Y&R is presented to Sally’s portrayer, Courtney Hope.
Courtney Hope — Y&R Performer of the Week
This week, Sally experienced a lot of ups and downs — mostly downs — and Hope helped us truly feel Sally’s fear of becoming a mom. When Sally got the call from her doctor about her high blood pressure, the actress took us along as it all came home to her on-screen alter ego. From her tone of voice to her pulled-in body language, it was clear that Sally felt uncomfortable. Sally could no longer ignore her pregnancy.
We especially loved Sally’s vulnerability with Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow) as she discussed her childhood and how she’d learned that people let you down at an early age. The actress cried tears that made us feel as if Sally had truly experienced some terrible things in her youth. We also appreciated seeing how she warmed up to Nick when she felt content and safe.
Of course, earlier in the week, Sally expressed her frustration about Jill Abbott (Jess Walton) canceling on her and Chloe Mitchell (Elizabeth Hendrickson) at the last minute. We could see the wheels in Sally’s head spinning as Hope’s facial expressions and body language gave life to the script. We appreciated how she kept plugging away at business determinedly as the rest of Sally’s world seemed to fall apart.
Finally, Hope’s timidness when she had to tell Nick something he obviously already realized — that Adam (Mark Grossman) could be the baby’s father — was made all the more real by Hope’s full range of channeled emotions laid bare. Bravo, Courtney Hope, on an excellent week of performances. We can’t wait to see how this all plays out for Sally.
