The Young and the Restless viewers know that Devon Hamilton desperately wants to carry on Neil Winters’s legacy, and now he has even more incentive because of his son, Dominic. For his performance, Soap Hub Performer of the Week honors for Y&R is presented to Devon’s portrayer, Bryton James.

Bryton James — Y&R Performer of the Week

This week, Devon made a big decision — to buy back Hamilton Winters from Chancellor-Winters. When he told Jill Abbott (Jess Walton), she wasn’t pleased, but Devon held his own. As a performer, James did an excellent job in the scene with Jill, which took place via a video chat. His body language and tone of voice managed to keep Devon respectful of Jill while also remaining emphatic that he’d made his decision.

Then, Bryton James got to display a bit of Devon’s fiery side when Lily Winters (Christel Khalil) confronted him over deciding to end their merger. She did not hold back, but Devon stood firm. Of course, James channeled some righteous anger through Devon when Lily broke out the Nate Hastings card, and he effectively pointed out how what Nate (Sean Dominic) did and what he planned to do were far different. Of course, he really didn’t have much he could say when she finally pulled out the Victor Newman card because, in some ways, Devon did seem rather ruthless.

Of course, when Devon saw Abby Newman Abbott Chancellor (Melissa Ordway), James showcased his on-screen alter ego’s slightly softer side when his tone of voice, facial expressions, and body language conveyed how much he cared about his son’s mom.

All that changed, though, when he confronted Tucker McCall (Trevor St. John) for colluding with Audra Charles (Zuleyka Silver) to take over Chancellor-Winters. James let Devon’s absolute disgust at his father’s behavior shine through with the way he sneered at Tucker and the power behind the delivery of his lines.

Bravo, Bryton James, on an excellent performance. We can’t wait to see more.
