The Young and the Restless viewers know that Ashland Locke will do whatever it takes to win and Victoria Newman Locke will do whatever she can to prove herself worthy of being The Great Victor Newman’s replacement. For both actors’ performances, Soap Hub Performer of the Week honors for Y&R is presented to Victoria and Ashland’s portrayers, Amelia Heinle and Robert Newman.
Amelia Heinle & Robert Newman — Y&R Performers of the Week
While we don’t usually honor multiple recipients, this week, both Heinle and Newman hit it out of the park with their ‘will they or won’t they’ game of back-and-forth. We could not tell if Ashland truly loved Victoria or if Victoria truly wanted to stick it to her family by turning on them and choosing her marriage to Ashland.
Amelia Heinle kept us guessing by totally selling Victoria’s devotion to Ashland. Sure, there was a moment when she berated him for all his lies, but then she quickly tamped that down, and her performance as Victoria was not only enough to convince the ‘Locke Ness Monster’ she was on his side, but also kept us thinking that SURELY Victoria would not do that.
For his part, Robert Newman convinced us entirely that Ashland truly grew to love Victoria. Certainly, he began their entire relationship based on a lie, with the express purpose of sticking it to Victor (Eric Braeden). We also loved the way Newman had Ashland handle Adam Newman (Mark Grossman) and his big offer. He showed us the masterful and ruthless side of Ashland while continuing to display a caring softness that really convinced us when it came to Victoria.
Bravo to both Amelia Heinle and Robert Newman for their excellent performances this week on Y&R.
