The Young and the Restless viewers know that Sally Spectra is moving forward after losing her daughter and her job. For the powerhouse performer of the month, Soap Hub presented the honor to Sally’s portrayer, Courtney Hope.
Courtney Hope: Y&R Powerhouse Performer
It was a big month for Sally as she wrestled with her feelings for both Newman brothers. Adam (Mark Grossman) kissed her while Nick (Joshua Morrow) was away, and Hope didn’t have Sally pull away immediately. In fact, she kissed him back briefly, which gave Adam some hope, although Sally firmly told him there was none. Sally also turned around and told Nick about the kiss and that she loved him, which came off as desperate, and Nick picked up on that, leading to him break up with her.
Of course, there was hope for Sally and Adam. One of Hope’s most moving scenes was when Sally told Adam that she still had feelings for him. The actress showed off how gut-wrenching the whole thing was with tears and unhappy body language. Sally couldn’t help loving Adam, but she also knows that he is absolutely bad for her. Of course, few, if any viewers, actually believed Sally even though Hope’s performance was believable.
During the scenes with Chloe (Elizabeth Hendrickson), Hope showed that Sally’s friend’s arguments didn’t quite move her. Chloe argued vehemently against Adam and urged Sally to reunite with Nick, but it was clear Sally’s heart wasn’t quite in that idea.
It didn’t take too long for Adam to find out that the spark might ignite into a fire. Sally sat with him at the GCAC bar, and Hope showed off her onscreen alter-ego’s compassionate side as she listened to Adam discuss Victor’s (Eric Braeden) mental decline (which was all a lie, but neither of them knew). She couldn’t help but be moved when Adam admitted how scared he was for his father.
Hope made Sally’s feelings obvious when she gave Adam a long, lingering hug. Then, things intensified as they kissed. They stumbled into her room, and Adam offered to quit, but Sally didn’t want to. Both Sally and Adam were all in on hitting the sheets, but even during that, Hope didn’t have Sally give Adam any signals that their relationship would be anything more than that.
Bravo, Courtney Hope, on a month filled with excellent performances. We can’t wait to see what happens next for Sally.
