Devon Hamilton and Lily Winters are at each other’s throats on The Young and the Restless. Both think they’re doing what their dad, Neil, would have wanted, and neither is willing to back down an inch. They each accuse the other of betraying Neil’s memory. Why they both could use a nice, long chat with a therapist. Preferably together.

Lily Winters & Devon Hamilton: Dad Always Loved You Best

This conflict isn’t about money or bragging rights or even who is right or wrong. This conflict is about Neil (Kristoff St. John). Lily (Christel Khalil) and Devon (Bryton James) both loved Neil. But they each had a different relationship with him.

Devon always knew he was adopted. He didn’t even meet Neil and Dru (Victoria Rowell) until he was in his teens. They fell in love with the street urchin and decided to adopt him. Even after he fell into a lion’s cage. (Who does that?)

Lily, on the other hand, didn’t know that Neil wasn’t her biological father until she was almost grown. And Neil didn’t know it either.

Adopted Children Are Special – Because They Were Chosen

Lily has had to live with the fact that Neil opted to be Devon’s father. Whereas he was tricked into being Lily’s. Sure, he raised her, and he loved her, and they agreed that Malcolm (Shemar Moore) being her biological dad wouldn’t change anything between them. (By the way, Devon, low blow throwing her paternity up in Lily’s face. Not cool, dude. Her situation with Malcolm is different from yours and Tucker’s [Trevor St. John]. But Neil didn’t get a choice in the matter. Not initially.

Lily Winters & Devon Hamilton: Admit It and Heal

Lily and Devon arguing over what Neil would have wanted is pointless. Are Lily and Devon really arguing about who is Neil’s true heir? Not the money. The money is secondary to both of them. Neil was both of their’s legal father, but whose spiritual father was he? Who is Neil’s “real” child? The sooner Lily and Devon realize that this business squabble won’t settle that point, the sooner they can bury the hatchet.
