Except for the minor fact that he can’t seem to stay married, no matter how many times he tries, Nick Newman pretty much has it all on The Young and the Restless. He was born rich, which means whenever he doesn’t like how his boss (i.e. Daddy) is treating him at work, he gets to stomp off in a huff — without worrying about how he’s going to pay his bills.
Nick (Joshua Morrow) has a civil co-parenting relationship with both his ex-baby mamas, is loved by his kids, and has a young son who, it would seem, requires minimal actual parenting. Not to mention, he is in what he insists is a terrific love affair with a woman who dumped his brother for him. Life is good! Or, at least, it should be. Except for one thing.
Sally (Courtney Hope) is the woman who loves Nick, oh, so much. And Nick loves her back. He’s even funding her new business. Which means they should have so much to talk about. Especially in bed. Why then, when they are half-naked, are they choosing to talk about Adam (Mark Grossman)? Over and over again? That’s a question that could drive anyone to the psychiatrist’s couch.
Nick is older than Adam. Their dad loves Nick more than Adam. Nick is raising Adam’s son. And Nick has Adam’s girl. What could he possibly have to feel inadequate to Adam about? Perhaps the answer is in where Nick chooses to have the majority of his Adam-based discussions. Is it at the office? Nope. Is it at the coffeehouse? Nope. Is it with Sally? Yup. Is it in Sally’s bed? Right again!
So, we’re not casting stones. We’re good therapists. We’re just asking questions. And letting Nick — and all of you — draw the obvious conclusion.
