We were pretty sure that Ashley Abbott was done with Tucker on The Young and the Restless. Ashley kept telling us that she was done with Tucker. And yet, when Ashley had the chance to really and truly be done with Tucker, she…went out of her way to not be done with Tucker. Why would she do that? Time to put Ashley Abbott on the couch and find out!
The most important relationship in Ashley’s (Eileen Davidson) life was with her father, John Abbott (Jerry Douglas). She was devastated to learn, as an adult, that John was not her biological parent. This colored everything she did moving forward.
Ashley’s relationship with Victor (Eric Braeden) reeked of Daddy issues. And we’d even venture to say that her lying to Victor about Abby’s (Melissa Ordway) paternity for years, claiming that Brad (Don Diamont) was the little girl’s dad, was Ashley subconsciously reliving her own situation with John.
Ashley, Jack (Peter Bergman), Dina (Marla Adams), and everyone else who was in the know about her true paternity went out of their way to keep John in the dark until the day he died. Ashley said she wanted it that way. But, as we’ve learned recently, what Ashley says and what Ashley does are often two very different things.
Ashley said she never wanted John to know. But, deep down, she had to have wondered whether John would have still loved her if he knew the truth. Would she still have been his “Beauty,” if every time John looked at her, he was forced to think of his cheating wife and how he’d been cuckolded?
And now we’ve got Tucker (Trevor St. John), a man knee-deep in his own paternity conundrum. Only, in his case, it’s getting his biological son, Devon (Bryton James), to let Tucker back into his life. It’s too late for Ashley to do anything about her relationship with John. But it’s not too late for her to meddle in Tucker and Devon’s complicated relationship.
Ashley has already said that she bought Tucker’s debt in order to reunite him with Devon. Without anything else to go on, we’re going to chalk it up to a case of projected daddy issues on Ashley’s part. Which is as good of an answer as any.
