On Friday’s episode of The Young and the Restless, Lucy sobbed about how her loving, caring, wonderful dad somehow turned into someone she couldn’t boast about to her friends in boarding school. They talked about favorite colors, and they talked about how sorry Daniel was for what he did. But we were still left scratching our heads and wondering…uh…what exactly did Daniel do that was so unforgivable?
Daniel Romalotti: Compare and Contrast
It was especially confusing because, in that very same episode, we had quite possibly the worst dad of them all, Victor (Eric Braeden), once again messing with his son, Adam’s (Mark Grossman), head. Victor actually schemed to have his son fired from his job so that Adam could hit rock bottom and come crawling back to Papa. And he called it love. He claimed it was because he was the only one who saw Adam’s true, genius potential. We call it gaslighting. And child abuse. And everything in between.
Young & Restless: Other Side of Town
Also in that episode was Kyle (Michael Mealor). Who took his own son away from the only parents he knew, who moved Harrison (Kellen Enriquez) to another country, and is still keeping the boy away from his biological mother. Summer (Allison Lanier) calls Harrison her son now. That may not be abuse. But gaslighting is certainly creeping up in there.
Daniel Romalotti: Remember When
Finally, there is Heather (Vail Bloom). Until she was a pre-teen, she didn’t know Paul (Doug Davidson) was her father. She thought the man her mother was married to was her real dad. And she adored him. But that dad was also beating her mother. April eventually killed him. So Heather has some idea of what a bad father can be.
Fill Us In, Young and the Restless
Which, again, prompts us to ask: Can we know the full extent of Daniel’s crimes? Otherwise, we really have to wonder what all the fuss is about.
