When The Young and the Restless first introduced us to an all-grown-up Adam Newman, they made a point of stressing how smart he was. He went to Harvard Business School! We’re not saying that a fancy diploma makes a person intelligent. But we can hope it makes them less stupid. This does not seem to be the case with Adam. The only thing we have left to wonder is: Just how stupid is he?
The definition of insanity is supposed to be doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. How many times is Adam (Mark Grossman) going to ask Victor (Eric Braeden) to make him CEO of Newman Enterprises?
How many times is he going to accept the position? And how many times is he going to be shocked when Victor pulls the rug out from under him and gives the job back to Victoria (Amelia Heinle)? This is non-stop Lucy with the football, and Charlie Brown falling for it. Every. Single. Time.
Whenever Victor wants to teach Victoria a lesson, he gives the job to Adam. And then, when Victoria learns her lesson, he gives the job back to her. At one point, Victoria even had Victor sign a contract that said he couldn’t remove her at whim.
So the last time Victor used Adam as a tool was when Victoria wanted to play Ashland (Robert Newman). She pretended to quit. Victor pretended he was finally giving Adam the position he deserved. And then Victoria came back. And Adam was out. And Victor was confused about why his son was so angry with him.
We’re not about blaming the victim. But, at this point, Adam is just asking to be betrayed again. Does he really think that THIS TIME when Victor gives in and names Adam CEO of Newman, THIS TIME he won’t eventually change his mind?
