When it comes to The Young and the Restless, every fan has their own opinion – and Soap Hub is no different. For five days, we sat and watched the good, the bad, and everything in between, and now we offer you a handy review, and a cheeky critique, of Y&R’s week that was.
The Young and the Restless: A Critic’s Week In Review
Could Abby Newman-Abbott-Chancellor (Melissa Ordway) be any more of an island unto herself on The Young and the Restless? Aside from Chance Chancellor (Conner Floyd) and occasionally Devon Hamilton (Bryton James), who does she interact with?
She’s spoken to Ashley Abbott (Eileen Davidson)…what…once since she’s been back? And that’s only because Ashley was on “Abby’s set” AKA Society. When’s the last time Abby set foot in the Abbott manse? The Newman Ranch? She didn’t attend Kyle Abbott (Michael Mealor) and Summer Newman Abbott’s (Allison Lanier) vow-renewal ceremony despite being related to both parties. She didn’t even attend the opening of Noah Newman’s (Rory Gibson) nightclub.
I just do not understand how Y&R can justify so underutilizing a character like Abby — what with blood ties to two of this soap’s prominent families and who’s on either familiar or antagonistic terms with nearly the rest of the canvas.
Further Y&R Musings
* Annnnnnnd Tucker McCall (Trevor St. John) is back in town to do exactly what we all suspected he would do: obtain Chancellor-Winters by any means necessary. Why am I not surprised that this storyline isn’t anything surprising?
* I had so hoped that The Young and the Restless was gearing up to unleash Chelsea Lawson’s (Melissa Claire Egan) inner Annie Lavery, but it suddenly swerved into a more than compelling look at one woman’s descent into suicidal depression. Brava to Egan for a fine performance.
* You don’t have to be an industry insider to know where Sally Spectra (Courtney Hope) is going to land next, not when Lily Winters (Christel Khalil) was seen complaining about her need for a competent COO at the exact same time that Red 2.0 was bemoaning her need for a job.
