When it comes to The Young and the Restless, every fan has their own opinion – and Soap Hub is no different. For five days, we sat and watched the good, the bad, and everything in between, and now we offer you a handy review, and a cheeky critique, of Y&R’s week that was.
The Young and the Restless: A Critic’s Week In Review
I sometimes wonder if The Young and the Restless scriptwriters confer with one another or ever consult the Y&R story bibles of old.
Given that this week Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) had the brass cheek to tell Adam Newman (Mark Grossman), “[My other children] have never felt not a part of the family,” when that was Nicholas Newman’s (Joshua Morrow) entire character throughline — until Josh Griffith saw fit to tamper with a good thing — and Lily Winters (Christel Khalil) had the temerity to say that she’s seen Devon Hamilton (Bryton James) exhibit, ‘nothing but love and respect,” when she knows good and damn well that that is a verifiable lie, I’m going to say that no, no they do not.
And that’s exactly what’s wrong with The Young and the Restless.
Further Y&R Musings
* I couldn’t help but giggle when Billy Abbott (Jason Thompson) suggested bringing back old Jabot campaigns given the dismal failure that was CBS’ revamped “Feel The Heat” promotions.
* Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford) doth protest too much. Her and Deacon Sharpe’s (Sean Kanan) history is not only memorable but FIRE!
* Though The Young and the Restless is insisting that I should, common sense is telling me not to invest too heavily in what appears to be the building towards a “Chelsea Tells Johnny The Truth About His Maternity” storyline.
I’m guessing that either Y&R drops the plot altogether or Chelsea (Melissa Claire Egan) will drop the bombshell and the dramatic fallout will consist of Johnny (Paxton Mishkind) shrugging his shoulders and doing another cannonball into a swimming pool.
The Young and the Restless (YR) airs weekdays on CBS. Check your local listings for airtimes. For more about what’s coming up in Genoa City, check out all the latest that’s been posted on Y&R spoilers, and for an in-depth look at the show’s history, click here.
