When it comes to The Young and the Restless, every fan has their own opinion – and Soap Hub is no different. For five days, we sat and watched the good, the bad, and everything in between, and now we offer you a handy review, and a cheeky critique, of Y&R’s week that was.
Where oh where to begin with this week’s Young and the Restless? How about the randomness that is putting walking HR nightmare Nikki “Audra I Want You To Stop Shtupping My Granddaughter’s Estranged Husband” Newman in charge of the new mega conglomerate that is Newman Media…yes…let’s start there.
When I’ve called for the writers (and when I say “writers” I mean Josh Griffith who’s the EP, head writer, breakdown writer, butcher, baker, AND candlestick maker) to introduce some intrigue and real honest-to-goodness stakes in its bland, boring, and unappealing corporate capers, this is not what I meant. And neither is Sharon (Sharon Case) pouting that she’s going to take back her company. My dear, Alexis Carrington Colby you are NOT. The only time I want to see Sharon in the business world is if she’s off her meds and either setting the offices on fire and/or embezzling the funds.
And seeing as how a plethora of sex scenes does not a storyline make, I can’t say that I’m much looking forward to seeing a storyline where Audra (Zuleyka Silver) and Kyle (Michael Mealor) are running around doing the nasty on the down low. It’s not as though this coupling actually has any rooting value.
Speaking of rooting value, did anybody else find it wholly reductive, irritatingly regressive, and even a bit insulting (okay, a whole lot insulting) to watch Sally (Courtney Hope) finally cave and ask Nicholas (Joshua Morrow) for the seed money to start her business? What’s the lesson here? Never fear girls, when life keeps knocking you down, you can always turn to a man and he’ll lend you the cash — and all the better if you’re sleeping with him!? UGH!
* I’ll give Y&R this. They sure do know how to milk a pointed, poignant flashback.
* Is it just me, or were the fantasies had by Nicholas, Sharon, and Adam (Mark Grossman) actually 10x better than what actually transpired?
* So…is that it? Ashley’s (Eileen Davidson) grand plan to stick it to Diane (Susan Walters) just fizzles after Diane lends her a saving hand? How…keeping with what has come before.
And speaking of what’s come before, it now appears that the done-to-death Ashley vs. Jack (Peter Bergman) plot is poised to give way to the even deader Jack vs. Billy (Jason Thompson) plot. UGH!
* So…criminally underused Mariah (Camryn Grimes) and Tessa (Cait Fairbanks) are FINALLY given a storyline all their own, and what it boils down to is their friends and family gathering around them spitting out platitudes and assurances that they’re just the bee’s knees and everything will work itself out? UGH!
