A Critic’s Review Of The Young and the Restless: Pouting, Gloating & Repeat

When it comes to The Young and the Restless, every fan has their own opinion – and Soap Hub is no different. For five days, we sat and watched the good, the bad, and everything in between, and now we offer you a handy review, and a cheeky critique, of Y&R’s week that was.

The Young and the Restless: The Critic Ponders

Here’s my biggest gripe with The Young and the Restless: their stories lack the stakes necessary to make them interesting.

Nick (Joshua Morrow), Adam (Mark Grossman), and Sally’s (Courtney Hope) blasé attitudes towards their “Two Men, A Lady, and a Baby” predicament have me at a loss. If they’re not bothering to care, why should I?

If Newman Enterprises gets McCall Unlimited, fine (shrug). If Devon (Bryton James) gets McCall Unlimited, fine (shrug). If Adam gets McCall Unlimited, fine (shrug). No matter the outcome, they’ll be one set of characters gloating, and another set pouting, and we’ll have been forced to watch yet another round of musical acquisitions and/or mergers.

I don’t know anybody who cares half as much about who acquires what company and what they do with it as the people at The Young and the Restless do. Well, I say people, but I mean Josh Griffith.

And so what if Billy (Jason Thomspon) and Chelsea (Melissa Claire Egan) get together and he rejoins the corporate grind at Jabot? We know how that’s going to end up. Adam’s going to fuss; Billy’s going to screw the pooch; lather, rinse, repeat.

As for the Victoria/Nate/Elena love triangle that really isn’t — I’m pretty sure all the interested parties have to be aware that they’re actually embroiled in said love triangle — who’s going to blame Nate for dumping Elena (Brytni Sarpy) given all she seems to do is harangue him for this and that? Plus, the Newmans collectively adore Nate — Nick’s low opinion of him notwithstanding — so barring an internal investigation initiated by Newman Enterprises HR, there will be no harm and very little foul.

Oh, and Phyllis (Michelle Stafford). Phyllis, Phyllis, Phyllis. There was a springboard for a juicy plot rife with repercussions, but instead of springing, Phyllis was made to aid Diane (Susan Walters). WHAT?!
