A Critic’s Review Of The Young and the Restless: Lackluster, Fizzle & Disbelief

The author’s opinions on Y&R are his and his alone. They’re suitably scathing, fairly humorous, and normally bang on target.

When it comes to The Young and the Restless, every fan has their own opinion – and Soap Hub is no different. For five days, we sat and watched the good, the bad, and everything in between, and now we offer you a handy review, and a cheeky critique, of Y&R’s week that was.

The Young and the Restless: The Critic Complains

The Grizzly Addams-looking cat is out of the bag — Cameron Kristen (Linden Ashby) is back…and I have no doubt that this return story will go nowhere fast and eventually fizzle. You can fool me once [Ashland Locke], but not twice [I knew to expect disappointment where Jeremy Stark was concerned], and especially not a third time.

And it’s a crying shame really because for years the majority of us Sharon Case [Sharon Rosales] fans have been clamoring for her to be handed a juicy storyline befitting her wasted talents.

Further Y&R Musings

* Am I alone in decrying the scenes that passed for Elena’s (Brytni Sarpy) takedown of Victoria (Amelia Heinle) and Nate (Sean Dominic)? They just felt so…so lackluster. So low-key.

* I supposed since I’m already expected to suspend my disbelief that Jack (Peter Bergman) was able to extract several strands of Phyllis’s (Michelle Stafford) hair from a shower drain, I should be able to believe that there are still piles of uncollected garbage dating back to the day of Phyllis’s memorial service behind the motel she laid low in, and yet…

* Oh poor fool me. There I was, and here I still am, cautiously appreciating what appeared to be the laying of groundwork for a real young adult scene with Johnny (Paxton Mishkind), Connor (Judah Mackey), and Lucy (Lily Brooks O’Briant). Lord knows a show called The Young and the Restless could use an injection of youth.

* When, exactly, did Phyllis become a sleight-of-hand magician?
