When it comes to The Young and the Restless, every fan has their own opinion – and Soap Hub is no different. For five days, we sat and watched the good, the bad, and everything in between, and now we offer you a handy review, and a cheeky critique, of Y&R’s week that was.
While the week as a whole was lacking — more on that in a moment — it was not without appreciable moments. Moments like (but not limited to because everyone, everywhere has their own tastes): Summer (Allison Lanier) slapping the smug off Kyle’s (Michael Mealor) face, drunk Tucker (Trevor St. John), Zuleyka Silver’s (Audra Charles) reactions to St. John’s drunk routine, that classic-ish flashback of catty confrontations gone by, Phyllis (Michelle Stafford) and Christine’s (Lauralee Bell) equally catty confrontation in the present, and Sharon (Sharon Case) and Chance (Conner Floyd) FINALLY getting it on after an interminable courtship that really wasn’t.
I also very much enjoyed Summer literally sniffing out the other woman in her marriage, but rather than pick up immediately after that cliffhanger we were forced to…wait two whole days before a stand-off ensued. Huh? What? I’ve heard of delayed gratification, but that was something else.
And what can I say about Victor’s (Eric Braeden) forcing his battling brood to make nice other than (in the highest pitch screech available to me)…WHY?!
Not one bit of that storyline has made the least bit of sense (a real problem with Y&R as of late. See a multitude of my past columns). I mean, there was Nicholas (Joshua Morrow), who’d only a scene earlier clashed mightily with pitiful, spiteful, totally lacking in self-awareness Adam (Mark Grossman), shrugging his shoulders and capitulating. Make it make sense!
And as for Sharon, Adam, and Nicholas pooling their resources to create one ginormous tech conglomerate…well, I can see it, but was there really no other way to get the characters there without sacrificing their, well, characters?
(Admittedly, I did chuckle when Victoria (Amelia Heinle) cooed to Nate (Sean Dominic) that Victor had played right into her hand. So Victoria. So Newman.)
