When it comes to The Young and the Restless, every fan has their own opinion – and Soap Hub is no different. For five days, we sat and watched the good, the bad, and everything in between, and now we offer you a handy review, and a cheeky critique, of Y&R’s week that was.

The Young and the Restless: The Critic Ponders

The return engagements of beloved characters from yesteryear continued to be the highlight of this week’s Young and the Restless, but the staggering of the arrivals really irked. By the time Nina (Tricia Cast), Danny (Michael Damian), Gina (Patty Weaver), and, heck, even Christine (Lauralee Bell) and Esther (Kate Linder) — one of Y&R’s most criminally underused creations — graced my screen with their presence I couldn’t help but wonder “Why?”

They’d already missed this rambunctious red-carpet and the dedication of the refurbished lounge to Neil Winters, and as we saw later in the week, none of them were even present for Phyllis’s (Michelle Stafford) excoriation of her detractors and collapse.

That said, what a treat it was to see Nina give Abby (Melissa Ordway) what for only to then immediately be reminded of her own formerly fast self. “I believe that I have displayed extraordinary growth, personally and morally…I got here, isn’t that what counts?” You bet it is! Cheers indeed!

Also, I’d forgotten just how wonderful — and perceptive — Gina was. Can we please get her back in Genoa City? And Leanna Love (Barbara Crampton) too!

Further Y&R Musings

* Billy (Jason Thompson) and Chelsea (Melissa Claire Egan) have never worked as a couple and will go on never working, no matter how hard Josh Griffith and company try.

* I get it The Young and the Restless, I get it — Christine and Paul’s (Doug Davidson) marriage is not long for this world. Here’s my advice: either start delivering the goods or stop all the damn hinting!

* I’m sorry, but did I really see/hear Devon (Bryton James) stomp his foot, cry, and ask how Lily (Christel Khalil) could expect him to work with someone who “hurt his feelings”?! BWHAHAHAHAHAHA!

* Okay, I’d really thought that I’d rumbled Jeremy (James Hyde) and Phyllis’s plan. Step One) Get Diane hurling death threats and have people overhear. Step Two) Phyllis ingests some poison — not enough to kill her, mind you — and gets rushed to Memorial Hospital. Step Three) Accuse Diane of attempting to murder her rival.

But now we have a crashed ambulance and — SPOILER ALERT — news reaching Phyllis’s loved ones that she’s MIA, so I’m back to square one.

* Poor, poor Adam (Mark Grossman). He’s playing second fiddle to Nick (Joshua Morrow) where Sally (Courtney Hope) is concerned, he’s persona non grata as far as his sister’s concerned, Chelsea would rather make merry with the man she raped than give him the time of day, and now he’s trying to matchmake Sharon (Sharon Case) and Chance (Conner Floyd)?! Fix him Lord!
