A Critic’s Review Of The Young and the Restless: C’est La Vie

The author’s opinions of The Young and the Restless are his and his alone. They’re suitably scathing, fairly humorous, and normally bang on target.

When it comes to The Young and the Restless, every fan has their own opinion – and Soap Hub is no different. For five days, we sat and watched the good, the bad, and everything in between, and now we offer you a handy review, and a cheeky critique, of Y&R’s week that was.

The Young and the Restless: This Critic Is Furious

Dear G-d Josh Griffith, make The Young and the Restless make sense! If Adam’s (Mark Grossman) work ethic is so lacking, then why did you begin the year with Jack (Peter Bergman) praising him and his efforts to the sky?

After spending months, and months, and months building the Nikki/Phyllis/Ashley vs Diane (Susan Walters) storyline to critical mass, you put a cap on it by having Nikki shrug her shoulders and adopt a c’est la vie attitude, but only after she finally obtains the ammunition to blow Diane out of the water? What?!

And to top it off you have Victor (Eric Braeden) agreeing to just let Jack skate on robbing him? DOUBLE WHAT?!

Further Y&R Musings

* And the award for ‘Perpetual Odd Man Out’ goes to…Adam Newman!

* How do you solve a problem like Phyllis’s (Michelle Stafford)? Have the character diagnosed with manic depression. Not only would that go a long way in explaining things, but Stafford would play the hell out of such a storyline.

If nothing else, I’m begging somebody, anybody on The Young and the Restless writing staff to recognize what a delightful double act you have in Phyllis and Tucker (Trevor St. John).

What do you think? Post a comment!

* I haven’t quite decided for sure, but I’m pretty sure I prefer Pretentious, Prissy, and Pissy Kyle (Michael Mealor) to Whiny Kyle. Either way, no matter the version, he’s been a chore to watch as of late.

* Oh look, a token appearance put in by Camryn Grimes [Mariah Copeland] and Cait Fairbanks [Tess Porter]. I supposed when The Powers That Be have no real obvious interest in fashioning you an actual storyline, being a talk-to is the next best thing.

Speaking of Mariah, does she still work at Jabot? Has she turned in her notice and I missed it?

* The highlight of the week? Lily (Christel Khalil) and Abby (Melissa Ordway) going toe to toe. The low light? Billy’s (Jason Thompson) and Chelsea’s (Melissa Claire Egan) date night that wasn’t a date night but was totally a date night. Ugh.
