A Critic’s Review Of The Young and the Restless: A Welcomed Twist

The author’s opinions on Y&R are his and his alone. They’re suitably scathing, fairly humorous, and normally bang on target.

When it comes to The Young and the Restless, every fan has their own opinion – and Soap Hub is no different. For five days, we sat and watched the good, the bad, and everything in between, and now we offer you a handy review, and a cheeky critique, of Y&R’s week that was.

The Young and the Restless: The Critic Offers HIS Take

Despite there being a distinct lack of buildup, no discernable motive on Claire Grace’s (Hayley Erin) part, and smacking of nothing but “plot, plot, plot,” Nikki’s (Melody Thomas Scott) dire predicament is a most welcome reprieve from the normal drudgery.

For one, it’s not a storyline that is concerned with executive shuffling — though, of course, such stories exist elsewhere (see Nate [Sean Dominic] now desperate to return to Chancellor-Winters and the merry-go-round at Newman Enterprises) — and mercifully Thomas Scott is getting a chance to do something other than stick her nose up at Adam (Mark Grossman), serve as Victor’s (Eric Braeden) chief apologist, and/or breathlessly coo “Darling.”

That plus Collen Zenk (Aunt Jordan) and a creepy doll crying a torrent of crimson? Yes please!

Further Y&R Musings

* It’s getting harder and harder to remind myself that once upon a time Eric Braeden was given material worthy of his talents and he wasn’t always consigned to sitting around bellowing. Note to Josh Griffith: Victor yelling at people isn’t an actual storyline.

And as for Victor telling Victoria (Amelia Heinle) that he no longer respects her? He might as well have gotten a gun and shot her in the heart.

Speaking of Victoria, her “questionable taste in men” goes back much further than J.T. and Billy. Cole and Ryan weren’t the best of catches either. And then there was Brad….and Stitch…and Deacon…and the list goes on. Neil Winters was definitely the best of the bunch.

* Jess Walton (Jill Abbott). Always a sight for sore eyes. And in the flesh no less. We are double blessed!

* So, Kyle (Michael Mealor) is a Trojan horse inside a Trojan horse? Since when did Tucker McCall (Trevor St. John) reach Victor levels of Machiavellian?

* What’s that Nicholas (Joshua Morrow)? Adam has never shown brotherly loyalty? I guess it was someone else who saved Faith’s (Reylynn Caster) life by donating a kidney.
