She was beloved on General Hospital as Valerie Spencer and now Brytni Sarpy is winning hearts as Elena Dawson, the new woman in Devon’s life on The Young and the Restless.
Between television, film, and theater roles, Sarpy has managed to stay very busy. Not to mention, she still finds time for volunteer work. From her early jobs as a struggling actor to her upcoming new television show, here are five fast facts about the actress.
In The Beginning
Sarpy was born on September 21 and raised in Los Angeles, California. She first became seriously interested in acting after she played a witch in a high school play. She attended the University of California, Santa Barbara and graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree.
Gotta Make Ends Meet
Following graduation, Sarpy began to audition for various film and television roles. While auditioning, she worked as a bartender and a personal trainer to make ends meet. She was also cast in a number of commercials, including one for Lay’s Chips.
First Feature Film
After appearing in a short film in 2009, Sarpy was cast as Marcia in the 2010 comedy, You Again, which was her first feature film. The movie starred Jamie Lee Curtis, Kristen Bell, and Sigourney Weaver.
Upcoming Show
Sarpy joined General Hospital as Valerie Spencer in 2015 (after losing out on the role of Jordan for being too young), which was her first major role for television. She went off-contract, which made it possible for her to join The Young and the Restless this year as Elena Dawson. But that’s not all — Sarpy was cast in the Tyler Perry show The Haves and the Have Nots in March 2019, which airs on OWN.
Getting Personal
Her parents split when she was 6 and she was mostly raised by her father, who now suffers from Parkinson’s. She previously dated rapper Big Sean, and she has a rescue dog named Charlie, who she got on her birthday back in 2012. Sarpy is a pescatarian and has been open about suffering from anxiety and depression.
