Lily and Devon’s reunion on The Young and the Restless was met with a harsh confrontation. Lily confessed that she was perfectly fine because the abduction was a ruse. She made a deal with The Mustache, and now she will face the fallout of losing her brother, Devon. However, Bryton James and Christel Khalil couldn’t be any closer behind the scenes. James shared a look at their tight-knit relationship and the bond they have formed over the years.

Key Takeaways

  • James and Khalil developed a tight bond over the years through the parallels in their careers.
  • James considers Khalil one of his best friends.
  • He’s also the godfather of her oldest son, Michael Caden.

Bryton James’ Bond With Christel Khalil

In an exclusive interview with Soap Opera Digest, James (Devon) talked about his friendship with Khalil (Lily). They’ve been part of each other’s lives for decades. The actors are like family.

James recalled what it was like when Khalil returned. He admitted that “we see and talk to each other so often, it doesn’t feel like a lot of time has passed.”

Khalil prepared for her big return to Y&R. She knew that she had a storyline to tackle when she came back. Devon found out that Lily and the twins weren’t in danger after all because of her deal with Victor (Eric Braeden).

“Her character became involved in a lot of different stories, so she had a lot of work to do,” James noted.

Not only is Lily feeling the fallout from Devon and Nate (Sean Dominic), but she’s also managed to push Cane (Billy Flynn) out of her life. In doing so, Lily became everything she hated about Cane.

James was ecstatic to have Khalil back. The two have known each other since they were kids. Khalil guest-starred on the ABC sitcom, Family Matters, where James got his start. “It’s been 22 years [at Y&R] for me, so that’s my 22-year-old sister right there in real and fake life!” James said.

Lily and Devon’s Sibling Feud Heats Up

James is more excited to tackle Lily and Devon’s sibling bond. It shattered now that Devon knows the truth. James admitted that he loves acting alongside his best friend.

However, Devon isn’t going to want to have anything to do with Lily. The actor explained his alter ego’s reaction to his sister’s lie.

“Just because making your family believe that her life or the twins’ lives are in danger is a pretty big deal, and I don’t think she’d want someone to do that to her,” he noted. Will Lily eventually face the consequences of her secret alliance?

It could take a long time for the siblings to repair their broken bond. While Lily broke Devon’s trust, it won’t take long for him to forgive her again. However, James added that, “Devon definitely doesn’t forget things.”

Regardless, James loves it when their characters are feuding. It’s different from how he would react to situations. “I never really have any conflict and confrontations to get to yell at people or do any stuff like that, so as an actor, I always enjoy doing what I don’t get to do often,” James explained.
