There have been rumors circulating for weeks but now comes word from Michael Mealor himself about his status with The Young and the Restless. The fan-favorite is confirming on social media whether or not he’ll be sticking around in Genoa City.
“In true Chanccomm fashion, Uncle Billy broke the news first…” Mealor began his farewell note, poking fun at a post from Jason Thompson, who plays media mogul Billy Abbott, that referenced Mealor’s exit. (Thompson’s post was since deleted.) “[M]y time as we know it on The Young and the Restless is coming to a close,” Mealor states.
“The last three and a half years have been a truly humbling and life-changing experience,” the actor continues. “I wouldn’t have been here this long without the love and support y’all have shown me throughout every inch of this ride! From appearing on national TV in my ‘birthday suit’ to digging up graves for DNA fragments, every engagement, and every heartbreak, whether you were #KOLA or #SKYLE, y’all were along for the rollercoaster.
“Thank you @youngandrestlesscbs, @cbstv, and @sony for trusting me with this incredible character,” the actor concludes. “Thank you for allowing me to be your Kyle Abbott. So much love to each and every one of you!”
The actor’s fellow cast members chimed in with their reactions now that Mealor’s made the news official. “MEALOR!!!!” exclaimed Eileen Davidson, who plays Ashley Abbott, Kyle’s aunt. “I love you so much! And had so much fun working with you! You’re an incredible man and actor and magnificent things await you! You will be soooo missed. #kylesupset.”
Well-wishes also came from Brytni Sarpy, who plays Elena. “[W]ishing you the best Michael!!!” the actress wrote.
“Cuz,” wrote Melissa Ordway, who plays Kyle’s cousin Abby Abbott-Newman Chancellor, “it’s been a true honor and pleasure working with you. You are going to be greatly missed. I know you have great things ahead.
Sending you lots of love.” Courtney Hope (Sally) wrote. “You’re brilliant and it was an honor! Can’t wait to see where you land next – until next time!”
No word on when Michael Mealor’s final episode as Kyle will air. Hunter King, the actor’s leading lady, hasn’t confirmed her exit from the show but rumors that she was leaving Y&R, too, were fueled when her character, Summer, took a job overseas in Italy. Will Kyle join here there? Stay tuned to find out!
