Tricia Cast and her character Nina returned to The Young and the Restless for her son, Chance’s, wedding to Abby Newman, and stuck around for the birth of their first child – who is currently… misplaced.

Nina wasn’t in Genoa City for the death of Neil Winters, but she knew him from when she lived in town before. What Y&R viewers didn’t know, however, was that actors Tricia Cast (Nina) and Kristoff St. John (Neil) went even further back than they admitted on-camera.

Down in the Dirt

Tricia Cast joined the cast of Y&R in 1986. Kristoff St. John did the same in 1991. But, back in 1979, both got down and dirty together as co-stars in the TV series, The Bad News Bears. Based on the feature film, Cast took over the role of tough guy pitcher Amanda Whurlitzer, originated by Oscar winner Tatum O’Neal. While St. John played Ahmad Abdul Rahim.

Also in the cast? Goonies and Stand By Me movie star to be Corey Feldman, Meeno Peluce who would go on to cult fame in Voyagers (and as the brother of Punky Brewster’s Soleil Moon Frye), and grown-ups like Catherine Hicks and Jack Warden.

More Of Me

After The Bad News Bears, Tricia Cast went on to star in a Disney movie, The Ghosts Of Buxley Hall, where she was obviously being groomed to be their next Jodie Foster. She made her soap opera debut on Santa Barbara as Christie in 1985. Meanwhile, Kristoff St. John’s first soap opera role was as Adam on Generations. He stayed with the show for the duration of its run from 1989 to 1991.

Tricia Cast and Kristoff St. John Together Again

Though eventually reunited on Y&R, Neil and Nina hardly ever crossed paths. Why not? What were they hiding? Did they not want their family and friends to know they’d once been teammates? Was it because they were actually something more…we’ll never know.
