On The Young and the Restless, fans watched Lauren Fenmore, as played by Tracey Bregman, grow from a scheming, selfish, slightly sociopathic teen into a terrorized kidnapping victim, a put-upon wife, and mother, a successful businesswoman, and, finally, a contented Mrs. Michael Baldwin.
Before she came to Genoa City, she played an equally bratty teen on Days of our Lives. (She was Marlena Evans’ stepdaughter, Donna Temple Craig, and she hated her as Donna wanted her dad all to herself.)
But before she was a soap star, Bregman had an even darker past. In 1981, she co-starred in the feature film, Happy Birthday To Me, starring Melissa Sue Anderson, also known as the blind and saintly Mary Ingalls on Little House on the Prairie.
Bregman played Ann Thomerson. Ann was a classmate of Melissa Sue’s. She was scheming, selfish, and so very sociopathic. She was basically the rich bitch who made poor Melissa Sue’s life hell in high school. Y&R’s Traci Abbott (Beth Maitland) can likely relate.
Yet, when Melissa Sue invited Tracey/Ann to her birthday party, the bad girl surprisingly accepted. And convinced the rest of her popular crew to do so, too.
Then the weird deaths started. Throats slit with a razor… gutted by garden shears… crotch crushed by weights… and then there’s the infamous skewered by a shish kabob scene.
Who is doing the killing? As the death count rises, Tracey/Ann and Melissa Sue are competing for the title of the last girl standing.
Happy Birthday To Me has become a cult horror classic over the past forty years, with reviews, in-depth analysis, classic scenes (see the shish kabob, here), and a bunch of trailers. Y&R’s Tracey Bregman is featured most prominently in this one.
If Traci and Marlena think they saw the worst of her, they ain’t seen nothing yet. The Young and the Restless (YR) airs weekdays on CBS. Check your local listings for airtimes.
