Before They Were Soap Stars: Y&R’s Eric Braeden As Dr. Charles Forbin

Eric Braeden joined the cast of The Young and the Restless as magnate Victor Newman in 1980. But a decade earlier, in 1970, he was starring in the big-screen feature film, Colossus: The Forbin Project, as the titular Dr. Charles Forbin himself.

Eric Braeden: What He’s Been Up To

Before he built an international company from the ground up, Eric Braeden, AKA Dr. Colossus, designed a super-computer that could take over the United States defense system, making logical, practical, sensible decisions that no emotional human could ever make – and much more quickly, too.

So, basically, like Victor Newman, Colossus also thinks he’s always right. (And he was based, Dr. Forbin admits, on his own personality.)

Ooopsie-Daisy

Dr. Forbin was so sure that he’d created the perfect machine that he made it impossible for anyone to disarm it. Which becomes a wee bit of a problem when Colossus makes friends with Guardian, the Soviet version of the ultimate machine, and they decide they’re going to rule the world together, without any input from those puny humans.

Eric Braeden: The Bare Necessities

To outsmart Colossus, Dr. Forbin has no choice but to get naked. He convinces Colossus that while he can be watched every other minute of the day by the computer’s ubiquitous cameras, he needs privacy when having sex with his fellow scientist, played by Susan Clark (AKA The Mom From Webster). Colossus agrees but makes them both strip in front of him. So they do. Naked Victor!

This movie is a cornucopia of familiar Before They Were Stars faces, as it also features Rudy from The Six Million Dollar Man and The Bionic Woman (he also did a stint on General Hospital in the early 1980s), Linc from The Mod Squad, and Mrs. Cunningham from Happy Days!
