Shemar Moore made a splash when he first appeared on The Young and the Restless in 1994. He’s since returned for the tribute to Neil (Kristoff St. John) and, from 2009 to 2011, he was played by Darius McCrary (for those counting along at home, yes, McCrary is six years younger than Moore, and only 11 years older than Christel Khalil, who plays Malcolm’s biological daughter, Lily. It was weird.)
After all, Devon (Bryton James) is a little young to be the patriarch of his family. Is it time for the character of Malcolm to return to Genoa City and try to fill the incredible void that was left when his brother Neil passed away? What almost 2,000 voters told us:
A majority 54% of the audience won’t even entertain the idea unless Shemar Moore comes back. And Shemar Moore has made it clear he isn’t coming back. He’s got primetime things to do, and while he always speaks warmly of YR and the friends he made there, they are never, ever getting back together.
Then there are the 24% of you who are dying for another major patriarch to take his place in Genoa City alongside Victor (Eric Braeden) and Jack (Peter Bergman), the way Neil used to do. We have no idea what Malcolm has been up to over the past decade. For all we know, he has a family of his own now. They need to return and throw some Winters weight around!
Alas, 22% of the fans just want the character back, they don’t care who plays him. He and Lily have unfinished business. He’ll never be her father, that will always be Neil. But they could rebuild the friendship they once had as uncle and niece. Not to mention, Malcolm raised Nate (Sean Dominic) for a good chunk of his life.
Nate could use someone to talk to – who isn’t a woman who cheated on him. That’s a pretty good start for a dynasty right there. The Young and the Restless (YR) airs weekdays on CBS. Check your local listings for airtimes.
