A Critic’s Review of Young and the Restless: Someone To Believe In…

When it comes to Young and the Restless, every fan has their own opinion – and Soap Hub is no different. For five days, we sat and watched the good, the bad, and everything in between, and now we offer you a handy review, and a cheeky critique, of Y&R’s week that was.

The Young and the Restless: A Critic’s Week In Review

I’m going to be keeping an eye on the forum below because I’m hoping that someone, anyone, will drop a comment and tell me who it is that I’m supposed to be rooting for on The Young and the Restless.

The closest I can figure it is that it’s Billy Abbott (Jason Thompson), and that’s only because the character did a complete 180 and spent the better part of the week acting like a completely different (read: rational) person.

I suppose The Young and the Restless writers want me to feel sorry for/care about/want the best for Chance Chancellor (Conner Floyd), but if that’s the case, then they shouldn’t have made him a sad sack who all but admitted he abandoned his wife because his masculine pride had been wounded.

And I don’t feel a thing for Devon Hamilton (Bryton James), especially in light of the fact that he decided to take legal action against Abby Carlton Abbott Newman Chancellor (Melissa Ordway) and Chance only after he witnessed Chance finally bond with Dominic. Petty isn’t a good look Devon. In fact, this whole storyline hasn’t been good for Devon.

It made no sense whatsoever that Devon would agree to be the donor for the Chancellor baby in the first place, and his subsequent attachment to, and desire to parent Dominic has played out in such a way as to paint him as a villain – and Devon is decidedly NOT a villain in this or any piece.

Also, can Amanda Sinclair (Mishael Morgan) please take a seat and mind her own business? She has no place telling Devon to fight for legal custody of someone else’s child.

As for Victoria Newman Locke (Amelia Heinle), Billy and Traci Abbott (Beth Maitland) were right to read her the fifth. This selfish, obnoxious, shrewish Victoria is not the Victoria of old. I don’t know who she is, but I know that I don’t like her.

And then there’s Chelsea Lawson (Melissa Claire Egan), an apparent favorite punching bag of The Young and the Restless scribes. Since her return to the canvas, she’s been written as pathetically obsessive over, and pathologically incapable of living without Adam Newman (Mark Grossman). And as for her former business acumen – right out the window it goes; because Adam’s “side piece” can’t possibly have any good ideas. Here’s a character that needs to be shaped up, or shipped out.

The Young and the Restless (YR) airs weekdays on CBS. Check your local listings for airtimes. For more about what’s coming up in Genoa City, check out all the latest that’s been posted on Y&R spoilers, and for an in-depth look at the show’s history, click here.
