When it comes to Young and the Restless, every fan has their own opinion – and Soap Hub is no different. For five days, we sat and watched the good, the bad, and everything in between, and now we offer you a handy review, and a cheeky critique, of Y&R’s week that was.

The Young and the Restless: A Critic’s Week In Review

I usually decry The Young and the Restless’ character-centric/very special episodes, so what I’m about to say may shock you. I loved Michael Baldwin’s (Christian Le Blanc) trip down merry, and not so merry lane.

I loved it if for no other reason than it reminded me how good, nay great The Young and the Restless use to be. Ah, those halcyon days long since passed.

A day later, I found myself forced to sit through yet another show where the overarching theme was “Isn’t Nicholas Newman (Joshua Morrow) just the bestest?” That I did not like.

I get it Y&R. You think that the guy walks on water. That there never existed nor will there ever again exist a better father. That he might be living proof that nature can supersede nurture. Please don’t trouble yourselves by devoting another show to the facts as you see them.

Further Y&R Musings

* I’m just going to say it and save The Young and the Restless the trouble of trying to shock me: Ashland Locke (Richard Locke) never had cancer. It’s been one big ole scamola. That or the writers have no idea what terminal diagnosis actually means.

* Lily Winters (Christel Khalil) trusts her better half – really she does. The fact that she’s called to check on him, and to double-check that he’s actually been telling her the truth should not be read into. Billy Abbott (Jason Thompson) and Lily are a couple for the ages. (insert eye-roll emoji)

* Odd Man Out: Rey Rosales (Jordi Vilasuso).

* Who should Melissa Claire Egan be chemistry tested with next? So far, the soap has tried Vilasuso, Rory Gibson’s Noah Newman, and Conner Floyd’s Chance Chancellor. A pairing with one of the latter gentlemen I could get behind.

The Young and the Restless (YR) airs weekdays on CBS. Check your local listings for airtimes. For more about what’s coming up in Genoa City, check out all the latest that’s been posted on Y&R spoilers, and for an in-depth look at the show’s history, click here.
