A Critic’s Review of The Young and the Restless: Trust No One

When it comes to The Young and the Restless, every fan has their own opinion – and Soap Hub is no different. For five days, we sat and watched the good, the bad, and everything in between, and now we offer you a handy review, and a cheeky critique, of Y&R’s week that was.

The Young and the Restless: A Critic’s Week In Review

Well, we’ve thought it, but it was good ole Victor “Trust No One” Newman (Eric Braeden) who asked it: Is Ashland Locke (Richard Burgi) faking his supposedly fatal illness?

We really started to suspect that he wasn’t – because what would faking his symptoms when no else is around to see him doing it actually accomplish? Is Ashland really diabolical enough to fake a panic attack (again, while on his lonesome) and then lie on the floor of Victoria Newman’s (Amelia Heinle) living room on the off chance she’d come home early, find him, and fuss over him? But why was he so adverse to Vick going to his chemo treatment?

The mind boggles…but not only just over the status of Ashland’s heath. How dare Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford) expect Summer Newman (Hunter King) to snap to it and come home just because she decrees it! And how dare Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman) deem to tell Billy Abbott (Jason Thompson) and Lily Winters (Christel Khalil) what news they could and could not publish through THEIR media company?!

We also wonder if The Young and the Restless might be gearing up for a Phyllis/Jack/Nicholas Newman (Joshua Morrow) love triangle again? Jack and Phyllis were awfully chummy sitting in the Abbott manse commiserating over their kids; and what was with Jack telling Nick that Phyllis is the only person (read: woman) who knows him best? Can we say, warning signs?!

Further Y&R Musings

* A hookup that we would NOT have an averse reaction to seeing, would be one between Adam Newman (Mark Grossman) and Sally Spectra (Courtney Hope). We speculated last week that Y&R was preparing us for a shock Adam/Chloe affair, but now we think that we’d prefer seeing the show’s two biggest pariahs make a go of it.

* Was there a funnier or more insightful moment than Adam pointing out that Phyllis and Sally had more in common than either one was willing to admit? We think Jack’s face said it all.

* Do our eyes and ears deceive us, or was there some actual forward momentum in the Mariah Copeland (Camryn Grimes) storyline? If not, we’d just like to say: took you long enough!

The Young and the Restless (YR) airs weekdays on CBS. Check your local listings for airtimes. For more about what’s coming up in Genoa City, check out all the latest that’s been posted on Y&R spoilers, and for an in-depth look at the show’s history, click here.
