When it comes to The Young and the Restless, every fan has their own opinion – and Soap Hub is no different. For five days, we sat and watched the good, the bad, and everything in between, and now we offer you a handy review, and a cheeky critique, of Y&R’s week that was.
Last week, it was all about the drama that unfolded during the Newman Media launch party; this week, it’s all about THOSE scenes that played out between Nicholas Newman (Joshua Morrow) and Sharon Rosales (Sharon Chase).
Sure, sure, some of it didn’t make a lot of sense – Phyllis “Freaking” Summers (Michelle Stafford) is a safe choice? Someone that Nick has chosen to settle with? Paleese Sharon! – but there were some great truths imparted, and the easy-going chemistry between Morrow and Chase made it all the more worthwhile.
But what are we to make of the final interaction had between the pair? Were they merely reflecting on what the other had said, or were they beginning to wonder if perhaps they really were making do with the wrong partner and that they should once again give it the ole college try?
* Hypocrite, thy name is Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman). He admits to wanting to see Sally Spectra (Courtney Hope) turn into Phyllis, and yet he couldn’t forgive Sally her trespasses, despite forgiving each and every one of Phyllis’s most egregious errors – including sleeping with his half-brother while they were married.
Speaking of Jack…Since the writers have clearly dismissed the idea of treating Bergman as a viable leading man, and in light of the fact Jack has literally no family to preside over – Ashley (Eileen Davidson) and Traci’s (Beth Maitland) drive-by visits notwithstanding – are we to assume that his next big storyline might involve a battle with the bottle?
If not, someone should inform the Powers That Be that it’s bad form for a recovering substance abuser, who’s also the co-head of a recovery program, to be night drinking his blues away.
* Why did Tessa Porter (Cait Fairbanks) feel the need to tell Sharon that Abby Chancellor (Melissa Ordway) had gone all out for Dominic’s welcome home party? Sharon was at the manse and had even helped with the final touches.
Also, why has Sharon never done anything with her psychology degree…other than serve as Connor’s unofficial – nonpaid – therapist?
* How much longer does The Young and the Restless intend to keep Chance Chancellor undercover and unreachable? At this point, the show’s best options are to recast the part, break Chance and Abby up for good, or have him die in the line of duty.
* Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) has a lot of gall to condescend to, and judge, Sally considering the fact that he’s married to a former burlesque performer who’s murdered three people. Glasshouse…throwing stone…
* Most Valid Point Made: How can Adam Newman (Mark Grossman) change when nobody- save for Nick – wants to give him a second chance?
* Best New Prop: Victoria Newman’s (Amelia Heinle) portrait; long may it hang it the CEO office.
