A Critic’s Review of The Young and the Restless: Suspicion and Blowback

When it comes to The Young and the Restless, every fan has their own opinion – and Soap Hub is no different. For five days we sat and watched the good, the bad, and everything in between, and now we offer you a handy review, and a cheeky critique, of YR’s week that was.

The Young and the Restless: A Critic’s Week In Review

Considering that just prior to rolling a STOLEN truck down an embankment, Faith (Alyvia Alyn Lind) was engaged in drinking, and device-distracted driving, while underage, YR managed to shoehorn in three stealth public service announcements. That’s quite possibly some kind of record.

But don’t expect Faith or anyone else to actually pay for all those crimes. She’s really, really sorry it all happened, she admitted to being stupid, so she’s getting a free pass. No arrest for endangering the lives of others. driving without a license, or anything else for this little lady. She’s learned her lesson!

And while that part of the storyline may be a little hard to swallow, it’s Adam’s (Mark Grossman) forced involvement into the sorry saga that’s downright gag-inducing.

From the moment the words, “Good Samaritan” were uttered, it was obvious who they were going to reveal as her savior. How else could the show justify keeping Adam in Sharon’s (Sharon Chase) orbit? They think it will be awfully hard for someone to call him a selfish such-and-such for reaching out and begging for help from his ex when he’s the one responsible for saving her kid. They’re wrong, but that’s what they seem to think.

But now that the complaints are out of the way, let’s get to the praise. First and foremost, we thank TPTB for those flashbacks to Cassie’s (Camryn Grimes) passing. Of course, that’s exactly where our, and Sharon and Nick’s (Joshua Morrow), minds would go. Back to the single most tragic day in their lives.

Secondly, the author of this piece wants to give a special shout-out to the inclusion of Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott) and Victor (Eric Braeden) in so many of the hospital scenes. The relationship between a grandparent and a grandchild is a truly precious thing, and it was nice seeing the interactions between Faith and hers.

Further YR Musings

* Did anyone else find it a bit odd that Amanda (Mishael Morgan) chose to confide her recent woes in Devon (Bryton James), the man who cheated on her multiple times with his ex? Why not reach out to Phyllis (Michelle Stafford), who’s supposedly her good friend? Or how about Lily (Christel Khali), or even Billy (Jason Thompson)?

Quibble aside, the prospect of Victor playing a part in the death of Amanda’s father offers up a whole host of juicy story potential.

* After kinda sorta stepping up to the plate and confessing half of his sordid story to Jack (Peter Bergman), Kyle (Michael Mealor) seems in a pretty good place. Daddy’s gonna fight his battle for him, and he and Summer (Hunter King) get a free vacation to boot. Or will Kyle blow it all up?

* Did Phyllis seriously lunge for Sally (Courtney Hope) right there in the middle of The Grand Phoenix lobby? What would she have done if Summer hadn’t been there to literally hold her back? And how would she have explained the incident to all concerned?

* Does Nurse Meredith ever actually do any nursing? And exactly how many breaks does this woman take? At this point, it seems that she just literally walks out the door at any hour she chooses, whether Chelsea (Melissa Claire Egan) has someone in the penthouse with her or not.

* So, Rey (Jordi Vilasuso) served a warrant against Adam (Mark Grossman) and then proceeded to personally search his car and home and uncover the “smoking gun?” Has he, or the scriptwriters, ever heard of a thing called conflict of interest?

* Victoria (Amelia Heinle) continues to be presented as a desperate and lonely woman, and that characterization continues to grate. The Young and the Restless (YR) airs weekdays on CBS. Check your local listings for airtimes.
