A Critic’s Review Of The Young and the Restless: Shaking Up Genoa City

When it comes to The Young and the Restless, every fan has their opinion – and Soap Hub is no different. For five days we sat and watched the good, the bad, and everything in between, and now we offer you a handy review, and a cheeky critique, of YR’s week that was.

The Young and the Restless: A Critic’s Week In Review

Ashland Locke (Richard Burgi) has arrived, and he seems… downright pleasant. But according to the wife, that’s just his outward appearances masking the inner monster. And it’s that inner monster that we’re dying to meet. But we’ll take what we have been given so far. After all, his (purposefully?) confusing Kyle Abbott (Michael Mealor) and Summer Newman (Hunter King) as a bellboy and another Grand Phoenix staffer was a hoot.

Equally hilarious were the faces made by “Skyle” as they sat and watched Jack (Peter Bergman) and Sally (Courtney Hope) engage in their first lip lock. This is a pairing rife with juicy potential.

As is a possible Ashland/Victoria (Amelia Heinle) coupling. Surely we weren’t the only ones who saw the spark between those two. Why oh why wouldn’t she accept that private dinner invitation he extended? Is it because he’s married? Or supposedly the devil incarnate?

No, it’s most likely due to the simple fact that Victoria is still gaga over Billy (Jason Thompson), which is a ship that sailed years ago! Get over it Vick. We have.

Further YR Musings

* Boy, Sharon (Sharon Chase) is really one to jump to conclusions isn’t she? She was all ready to believe that Faith (Alyvia Alyn Lind) was lying about being bullied – which itself was a dangerous message considering that the young lady was telling the God’s honest truth – and now she’s convinced herself that her daughter is bipolar because some tacky knickknacks have gone missing. Get a grip and read a how-to-parent-a-teenager book.

Equally frustrating is Sharon’s total reluctance to engage in therapy with Rey (Jordi Vilasuso)…not to mention her complete denial of any wrongdoing on her part where Adam (Mark Grossman) is concerned and her ability to make the whole situation Rey’s fault. How dare he not like her involving herself in her ex’s life. And how dare he have had a wife who cheated on him.

* Is Adam completely devoid of peripheral vision? That has got to be the case considering he walked down the stairs, passed Chelsea (Melissa Claire Egan), stood mere inches in front of her, and he still didn’t notice that she was standing straight up.

* Speaking of Adam, we understand that the writers are trying to hammer home the connection these two share, and all of the drama they survived together, but did it bother anyone else that the soap recreated a long ago Shadam scene, with Mark Grossman’s Adam, which had transpired long before Adam’s face was severely damaged and reconstructed to look like Gabriel Bingham’s?

* How did Faith’s praiser manage to figure out the number to her brand-spanking-new cell phone? And what do you make of this storyline? Is this merely a case of a fellow outsider looking to connect? Or are we gearing up for a cautionary tale about meeting a stranger that you’ve chatted to online?

* It’s probably safe to say that Devon (Bryton James) no longer has the moral high ground. Not after he slept with Elena (Brytni Sarpy) after sweet-talking Amanda (Mishael Morgan) into his bed and convincing her that she was the one he wanted to move on with. The Young and the Restless (YR) airs weekdays on CBS. Check your local listings for airtimes.
