A Critic’s Review of The Young and the Restless: Don’t Roll-Over and Say-Die

When it comes to The Young and the Restless, every fan has their own opinion – and Soap Hub is no different. For five days we sat and watched the good, the bad, and everything in between, and now we offer you a handy review, and a cheeky critique, of Y&R’s week that was.

The Young and the Restless: A Critic’s Week In Review

Now that Tara Locke (Elizabeth Leiner) has dropped the pretext and has started letting her true colors shine through, we have two questions; and we’ve decided to start with the most pressing: Where the heck is Victor Newman (Eric Braeden)?

Instead of busying himself with plans to strike back against rival Billy Abbott (Jason Thompson) for telling the truth about him and his criminal son, perhaps Victor could actually make himself useful and deal with his granddaughter’s bully.

Secondly, what the heck happened to our Summer Newman (Hunter King)? This roll-over and say-die character is not the same one that we’ve grown so accustomed to. The Summer of old would have taken Tara’s challenge head-on, and eventually exposed her for the two-bit gold-digger that she really is.

Here’s hoping that Kyle Abbott (Michael Mealor) will be able to figure out the truth behind Summer’s sudden abandonment of him sooner rather than later.

Further Y&R Musings

* The bonding scenes between brothers Adam (Mark Grossman) and Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow) continue to please, as do the ones featuring Adam taking responsibility for his past actions.

* Kudos to performer Mishael Morgan for her excellent work in her scenes as Amanda takes on Ptosha Storey’s Naya Benedict; that was Daytime Emmy Award caliber stuff!

* How in the world did Imani Benedict (Leigh-Ann Rose) know that Amanda Sinclair was visiting with Devon Hamilton (Bryton James)?

* We’re still on the fence where Ashland Locke (Richard Burgi) and Victoria Newman (Amelia Heinle) are concerned. On the one hand, their interactions have a very cat and canary vibe to them – with each considering themselves the cat and the other the hapless canary. On the other, the chemistry between the two is undeniable.

* We’re just gonna come right out and say it – if The Powers That Be see fit to divest themselves of the Chance Chancellor character and reunite Abby Chancellor (Melissa Ordway) and Ben “Stitch” Rayburn (Sean Carrigan), there will be no complaints here.

And while we’re on the subject of Abby, is it really safe to assume that it was either Chance or Stitch watching her from both inside and outside the Chancellor manse?

Perhaps Stitch wasn’t completely honest about his son’s condition. Perhaps Max is out and about and suffering from the bloodlust? Who else would he rather target but his former stepmommy? The Young and the Restless (YR) airs weekdays on CBS. Check your local listings for airtimes.
