A Critic’s Review of The Young and the Restless: Coulda, Woulda, Shoulda

When it comes to The Young and the Restless, every fan has their own opinion – and Soap Hub is no different. For five days, we sat and watched the good, the bad, and everything in between, and now we offer you a handy review, and a cheeky critique, of Y&R’s week that was.

The Young and the Restless: A Critic’s Week In Review

Just when think that Billy Abbott (Jason Thompson) has learned his lesson, that’s he prepared to man up, take his lumps, and move on, he does the exact opposite. It’s frustrating, it’s uninspired, and it’s lacking in any drama – like every storyline on The Young and the Restless.

The soap could have scripted a fraught custody battle over Dominic, and instead, Devon Hamilton (Bryton James) simply handed him right back to Chance Chancellor (Conner Floyd) and Abby Chancellor (Melissa Ordway). Sure, he was sad about it, but not sad enough to do, well, anything. This is still an avenue Y&R could go down in the future.

It looks like we’re headed for a Noah Newman/Tessa Porter/Mariah Copeland triangle, but the odds are good that Mariah’s (Camryn Grimes) fears of being the odd woman out will soon be allayed after a short and sweet talk with Tessa (Cait Fairbanks).

It seemed like there would be a ferocious battle for ChancComm, but so far it’s all been very polite and easy-going, with only Adam Newman (Mark Grossman) displaying any urgency in getting matters settled; Victoria Newman Locke’s (Amelia Heinle) attempt to acquire ChancComm out from under Newman Media should have been interpreted as a declaration of war by Victor Newman (Eric Braeden), but he merely chuckled at the notion.

And we’re not even getting our hopes up when it comes to seeing Amanda Sinclair (Mishael Morgan) and Imani Benedict (Leigh-Ann Rose) fighting for truth and justice – nor are we expecting Imani to actual be assimilated onto The Young and the Restless canvas and given anything resembling an actual story.

Further Y&R Musing

* Jess Walton has proven that she is the balm that The Young and the Restless fans have long needed. The woman practically – no, she did steal an entire episode with the Jack Benny-esque look that she shot Katherine Chancellor’s portrait, and the inquiry (in reference to Adam), “Can you believe that guy?”

* What’s Wrong With This Picture? – Did Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford) really play nice with Billy in order to…thank him for being nice to her in a dream? At least those scenes were a nice distraction from the “Gasp! You think that Jack ‘like likes’ me, and that I ‘like like’ him back,” sort that she’s been playing as of late.

The Young and the Restless (YR) airs weekdays on CBS. Check your local listings for airtimes. For more about what’s coming up in Genoa City, check out all the latest that’s been posted on Y&R spoilers, and for an in-depth look at the show’s history, click here.
