J.T. Hellstrom is heading back to Genoa City on The Young and the Restless in December, home of his ex-wife, Victoria, and teenage son, Reed.
Thad Luckinbill created the character in 1999. He originated as a playboy partier, but by the time he left town with his wife Mackenzie in 2006, he had emerged as a responsible family man.
Want to brush up on all things J.T. before he returns to Genoa City? Here are seven things to know about him.
First Love
J.T. found love for the first time with Colleen Carlton. She was just 14 and harbored a major crush on J.T. when she tutored him before he started college. Although he wasn’t initially interested in the young Colleen, J.T. slowly fell for her, and romance blossomed.
Arrested Developments
J.T. was arrested for contributing to the delinquency of a minor for spending too much time with the underage Colleen. The charges, however, were eventually dropped. The cops also picked him up for assault, when he beat up Kevin (Greg Rikaart) after realizing he caused the fire at Gina’s Place that nearly killed Colleen.
On the Job
While attending college, J.T. worked at Paul Williams Investigations. He detoured from detective work when he was offered a recording contract and headed to Los Angeles to make a music video. J.T. ultimately left the music world and went back to work for Paul.
Affairs to Remember
Victoria hired J.T. to find out what was happening between her husband, Brad (Don Diamont), and Sharon (Sharon Case). Upon learning they’d had an affair, she filed for divorce and began an affair of her own with J.T. They eventually married and had a child.
La Divorce
J.T. and Victoria’s (Amelia Heinle) marriage hit the skids because of her loyalty to her father Victor (Eric Braeden) and Newman Enterprises — and his loyalty to business rival Tucker McCall. An amicable divorce followed until J.T. sued for sole custody of Reed (now Tristan Lake Leabu) and won.
Near Death Experience
En route to answering a distress call from Lily (Christel Khalil), J.T. crashed his car into a power pole and ended up electrocuted when he climbed out into the rain. The incident left him with burns and heart damage. J.T. had an out-of-body experience and walked toward the light of heaven until Cane (Daniel Goddard) revived him.
Travelin’ Man
J.T. wed his pregnant girlfriend Mac at a ceremony at the Chancellor mansion in 2010. Afterwards, the couple moved to Washington D.C. where Mac had been offered a new job. Since their departure, they’ve welcomed two children and relocated to Poland.
