The Young and the Restless star Jess Walton called Los Angeles home for many years. She still visits sunny LA when shooting scenes as Jill Abbott, but the actress lives out of state the rest of the time. Walton recently chatted with Soap Hub for this week’s Wellness Wednesday about health and wellness.
Jess Walton — Big Sky
Soap Hub: What’s a favorite workout for you? A lot of people are into yoga.
Jess Walton: For many years, I did yoga with a teacher. I actually used to work for him before I worked as an actress. I’ve also always liked swimming. I’m putting not a pool but a swimming spa at my house. [Laughs] Nobody here knows how to take care of pools! So, I’m putting an above-ground hot tub spa [at my house]. I’m very excited about that. I used to love my swimming pool when I lived in California.
Soap Hub: Do you meditate?
Jess Walton: No. That’s something I have to work on. I have a very active mind. But I will say that when I take walks in nature, and I find that to be kind of meditative. When I’m walking, I don’t think about my problems. I take in my surroundings.
Soap Hub: What’s your approach to diet and nutrition?
Jess Walton: I have all these books from over the years, including one about eating for your blood type, and another one is about how you mix foods, not eating carbs and proteins at the same time. I used to eat fruit in the morning, have my proteins and meats in the afternoon, and then, I’d have vegetables at night. I remember that being a nice plan, and I’ve decided to start that one up again. [Laughs] The only problem is at night, if I’m hungry and I go out to eat, I’ll be mixing foods! But when I cook at home, it’s easier to control that.
Soap Hub: I see on your social media that you have dogs.
Jess Walton: Yes. My [late] husband John and I had four. I lost two last winter. Now, I’ve got two. One is big and black, and we got her from a rescue. She’s 80 lbs. The other is a Chihuahua. Her name is Rita Hayworth because she’s red and has green eyes. I love them so much. They’re my heart.
Soap Hub: What do you love about dogs?
Jess Walton: They’re so innocent, so trusting. They’re affectionate. The little one sleeps with me. The big one was very attached to my husband. Now, she’s by my side all the time. I bring them with me when I visit [my son Cole and his family]. They’re everything to me. They’re part of my family, and I love them.
