Cynthia Watros, a Daytime Emmy nominee this year for her role as Nina Reeves on General Hospital, was one of the first actors Soap Hub featured in its Wellness Wednesday column, which started in 2021. Now, we’re checking in with the fan-favorite once more to talk about not only physical health but also, mental well-being.
Cynthia Watros Talks Physical and Mental Wellness
Soap Hub: We’ve written before about how you practice yoga and what that means to you. What advice would you have for someone who’s been making steady progress with their physical activity but then maybe they’ve hit a plateau?
Cynthia Watros: I’m not sure I have the answer to that but I will say that it all comes back to our bodies needing a little extra bit of loving. When you reach a goal and you plateau, you could put away the scale for a while. I think we weigh ourselves too much. Look at your body and compliment what you’ve done.
If pushing yourself [a bit more] means taking a walk when it’s dusk and the sun is still setting or whenever you may not normally take your walk, you can try that. My advice is if you’re working so hard, then do something that also brings a lot of peace and love to you — something that gives you a lot of pleasure. Add that into your workout instead of thinking, ‘I have to do an extra crunch or push-up.’ Do something that incorporates the mind, the body, and the spirit.
Soap Hub: Wellness is, of course, also about being well mentally. You’ve talked about in a GH Fantasy Event that you’ve read a book titled The Four Agreements: A Practical Guide to Personal Freedom.
Cynthia Watros: Yes. I think things come to you at the right time. I got that book but didn’t read it for years and then, one day I picked it up and read it. It changed my life because I’d been taking things so personally. I’d beat myself up. It wasn’t magic, but [I learned about] some letting go. And that encouraged more letting go. More peace. More harmony.
Soap Hub: What advice would you have for someone who wants to get started either with a physical routine and tackling overall wellness?
Cynthia Watros: You have to do it when you’re ready to do it.
