Brook Lynn Quartermaine may not be a mom (as Bailey Louise is really Maxie Jones’s daughter) but in real-life, her portrayer, Amanda Setton, is a mother of three! Despite being busy with both work and family, the fan-favorite makes time to work wellness into her life.
Soap Hub recently chatted with Setton for this week’s installment of Wellness Wednesday. The actress’s approach to wellness is all about staying healthy and not getting caught up in the social media craze. Read on to get Setton’s secrets to maintaining a healthy body and mind.
Soap Hub: The scenes with Brook Lynn giving Bailey back to Maxie were heart-breaking and, I imagine, emotionally draining. How do you fit wellness into your life between work and family?
Amanda Setton: I’ve learned over and over that self-care is number one. I have three children. It’s a lot, [so] I make a conscious effort to practice self-care. I eat well, I work out, and I stay hydrated. If you don’t do that first, then I won’t be able to be present for my family — my husband and children. My motto is to stay strong and healthy!
I’ve been through three pregnancies, and I nursed all of them for over a year. It’s challenging, but I’m feeling strong and healthy.
Soap Hub: What specific workouts do you do?
Amanda Setton: I do a lot of strength training. I do Pilates and sprints. I work with a trainer, who is amazing. He’s dynamite. His name is Graham Mitchell [Instagram: @fitgrahammitchell]. He’s amazing, just dynamite.
Soap Hub: You’re not on social media — is there a specific reason?
Amanda Setton: I’ve never been on social media. It started [to get big] when I was in college, and then, I was on Gossip Girl right after. At that time, it felt weird to be on Facebook if you were also on television. [Laughs] Now, of course, it’s practically a given! At the time when social media was first starting, I valued my privacy — not that I was Angelina Jolie. Then, Twitter came along and my feeling was, ‘Well, I’m not on Facebook so why be on Twitter?’ That [philosophy] just rolled along when Instagram started up. It’s almost like you don’t exist if you’re not on social media, but what can I say? I’m riding the wave!
Soap Hub: How do you stay up on what’s going on in social media?
Amanda Setton: People send me screenshots of things, and I can see them. The little part where I do engage is very addictive. When I scroll through news there’s almost an obsessive quality to it. I think limiting time on social media is a healthy thing to do.
