Abigail Klein has given the Johnson family a nice shot in the arm on Days of our Lives as Steve and Kayla’s daughter Stephanie Johnson. The actress recently sat down with us to share her thoughts on health and wellness for Soap Hub’s latest Wellness Wednesday column.
Abigail Klein — Make Your Own Health Food
Soap Hub: There’s an Instagram post of you making your own healthy treats. Have you always been health conscious? How did these muffins come about? They look healthy.
Abigail Klein: If it looks like cardboard, I’ll eat it! [My local health food store] used to have these paleo protein cookies. We were buying those at one time. My husband and I were looking at the ingredients. I thought you know I can totally whip these up. So that’s where that came from.
Soap Hub: How did you come up with the recipe?
Abigail Klein: I adapted and eyeballed the ingredients. That’s how they were born. And we’re obsessed. We’ve been eating them for years. They’re delicious. I’d say we’re health-conscious, but we have a balance.
Soap Hub: My next question! How do you balance things — do you have ‘cheat’ days?
Abigail Klein: Oh, yes. There are many cheat days. They can be any day. I crave White Lightning pizza at Jon and Vinnie’s. Also, the meatballs with garlic bread. That’s the best!
Soap Hub: We recently talked to your co-star Robert Scott Wilson (Alex Kiriakis) about wellness and working out. What do you do for physical activity?
Abigail Klein: I love doing Pilates. I found a Pilates instructor that I really love. She has an online class. I do Pilates at home. Sometimes, I go to a class. I love to hike, and I’ll listen to a podcast and go with friends when I do.
Soap Hub: Any advice to someone looking to start up a wellness plan, but they’re not sure how to get started?Abigail Klein: Yes. Don’t force on yourself what other people are doing. The only way I’m consistent in my at-home Pilates is because I found an instructor I genuinely like. It took a while to find her. If friends or people you know are touting one particular workout instructor and you try them, but you just don’t connect with that person, then don’t go anymore. If people are touting a particular vitamin or having a green juice every day, and if those things don’t draw you in, then don’t do them.
Find what works for you. It can be so basic. Incorporating the littlest things into your life, like drinking water. Another thing I’ve started doing is tongue scraping. I’m actually surprised I’ve been doing it every day for months. I can’t tell you that it’s actually doing something [beneficial], but I think things take time and patience. Take baby steps and be consistent.
