Soap Hub Travel Tuesday: Donnell Turner Travels Friendly Skies

Soaps no longer venture outside the studios to shoot remotely like they once did. However, Donnell Turner says that traveling is still a part of his job as General Hospital’s Curtis Ashford. The actor chatted with Soap Hub about recent journeys for this week’s installment of Soap Hub’s Travel Tuesday.

Donnell Turner — Stress-Free Class

Turner says that he’s often flying for both business and pleasure. “I go to Canada a lot,” the actor adds. Turner, who joined GH in 2016, reveals that he visits loved ones who live north of the United States. Domestically, he shares that he travels within the U.S. to do promotion for GH. In 2019, he traveled to Washington D.C., to meet General Hospital supporters. Last year, he traveled to Graceland, the home of Elvis Presley, to do a meet and greet with the soap’s devotees.

“We’re all over,” he says. “I get to shake hands and kiss babies and say thank you to the people who watch us.” Turner acknowledges that he doesn’t spend a lot of time on social media, but he’s on it enough to know some of the show’s more devoted fanbase. “You get to see them and learn, ‘Oh, wow, you’re this person on Twitter!’ Sometimes, I’m as big a fan of them as they are of me.”

Fan-tastic Road Trips

Donnell Turner revealed that most fans want to tell him how much they love the show when he meets them. “They’ve told me a lot of interesting things over the years,” he muses, “including that I smell good! Compliments go a long way.” Occasionally, a fan will let out what is most likely, an inadvertent compliment. “I’ll get, ‘Oh, you’re smaller than I thought you’d be,'” chuckles the muscular 6’2″ tall actor. “That’s my impetus to stay in the gym!”

Donnell Turner Learns from the Best

The actor admits that traveling with his GH colleagues has resulted in him learning some travel tips. “I just learned one from my boss — Frank Valentini [executive producer] — who asked me, ‘Oh, you travel with luggage?’ He forwards his ahead of time,” Turner shares.

Airport delays may appear to be more common than ever if news reports are to be believed. “Stay flexible,” says Turner, who was reminded of how important it is to stay cool when delays occurred over his last holiday break. “If it were a business trip, I might have felt a little more anxious,” he admits. “But, hey, I can’t fly the plane myself. So, I stay flexible.”
