It may be a half hour soap but the folks on The Bold and the Beautiful can often shoot multiple episodes in the same day! And if a performer’s storyline is heavy, that can add up to be a lot of pages!
B&B asked the show’s cast if they ever forget their lines (or “go up” to use a technical actor term). And the answer from a lot of them is a resounding yes, according to the show’s Twitter page.
Ingo Rademacher (Thorne), Jacqueline MacInnes Wood (Steffy), Darin Brooks (Wyatt), and Heather Tom (Katie) are among the actors interviewed about forgetting lines and every last one of them concedes, yes, it happens!
“It happens,” Wood says, hastening to add, “you can’t be hard on yourself.”
“Of course, I’ve been doing this for 30 years,” says Tom. “I do it all the time, and you just prompt yourself again, and we have great people on script [to feed us what we’ve forgotten], and you just jump right back into the scene.”
“We only learn these lines well enough to do them once,” explains John McCook (Eric), an original cast member, who used to do soaps live on tape when he played Lance on The Young and the Restless.
“This is not like theater,” adds McCook, noting that veteran actors can remember monologues from challenging productions like Macbeth and Hamlet, decades after they’ve performed them because it’s long-term memory!
The Bold and the Beautiful airs weekdays on CBS. Check local listings for airtimes.
