Was Vinny in Love With Thomas on The Bold and the Beautiful?

Once hospital lab tech Vinny Walker started tossing around DNA terms earlier this year on The Bold and the Beautiful, fans speculated that Thomas Forrester’s childhood pal rigged the results of Steffy Forrester’s paternity tests, hoping to create a pathway for Thomas to reunite with Hope Logan Spencer.

That turned out to be true. Vinny (Joe LoCicero) nearly pulled the plan off until Thomas (Matthew Atkinson) and Finn (Tanner Novlan) exposed his machinations. Later, in a shocking twist, Liam Spencer (Scott Clifton) accidentally struck and killed Vinny while driving his dad’s (Bill Spencer, Don Diamont) car.

The story took on another dramatic twist earlier this week when Thomas received some delayed texts from Vinny in which the drug dealing hunk revealed he was going to commit suicide, framing Liam (Scott Clifton) for his death and sending him to jail in the process, and, once again, try to create a way for Thomas to get back with Hope.

Thomas was stunned! Why would Vinny throw his life away on a plan that might not even work? Best friends help you move, offer you a place to live when you need one, and pick you up at the airport when no one else will. This was taking things several steps too far on The Bold and the Beautiful.

Vinny took his devotion to Thomas to a whole new level. There was nothing to ever indicate Vinny was gay (he didn’t like that Finn was talked about by the female nurses at the hospital). But why was he so dedicated to Thomas?

Sure, they grew up together but still, that doesn’t really seem like enough of a reason — yet something else might. Among Vinny’s very last words to Thomas were “I love you…” but was he in love with Thomas?

We’ll likely never know. Vinny gave his life hoping to help Thomas. B&B hasn’t yet fully delved into why he was so obsessed with his friend. Did Thomas help him out of a particular jam? Lend him some money?

B&B has a history of telling different kinds of love stories. The show sensitively told a transgender love story with Maya Avant (Karla Mosley) falling in love with Rick Forrester (Jacob Young). After Rick discovered that Maya had been born Myron, he realized that he loved her anyway. Love won, but not this time, at least not for Vinny.

June is Gay & Lesbian Pride Month, a celebration of the LGBTQ+ community, so this might have been a time for Thomas to have learned that Vinny was in love with him. (Although, for the purpose of representation, it might be best to not have the show’s first gay male character commit suicide.)

There’s a Bible verse that reads: “Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.” That’s what Vinny did and ironically, his plan may end up working down the line.

While there’s no reason to think that Liam and Hope (Annika Noelle) won’t survive this current ordeal, who’s coming off like the hero so far in all this? Thomas! He’s desperately trying to bring to light Vinny’s incriminating and tragic text videos that reveal Liam was set up. It’d be ironic if Thomas and Hope were to connect someday, but we could see Thomas’s guilt stop him from following through with Hope.

Clearly, this B&B story isn’t over and not just because Bill and Liam and Thomas are all being kept behind bars (or, in Thomas’s case, a cage). Perhaps we’ll learn more about Vinny’s feelings in other texts he sent Thomas that have yet to be revealed.

Either way, Vinny’s death is all the more tragic now because he chose to end his life, leaving Thomas behind to mourn his best friend for the rest of his life. The Bold and the Beautiful (BB) airs weekdays on CBS. Check your local listings for airtimes.
