The Bold and the Beautiful Week In Review: Jaw-Dropping Lies Exposed

Watching The Bold and the Beautiful, everybody’s got an opinion…especially where their favorite daytime drama is concerned – and Soap Hub is no different. For five days we sat and watched the good, the bad, and everything in between, and now we offer you a handy review, and a cheeky critique, of B&B’s week that was.

The Bold and the Beautiful: A Critic’s Week In Review

Last week B&B began dropping hints that Vinny (Joe LoCicero) had tampered with Steffy’s (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) paternity test. And those hints weren’t exactly subtle.

But just in case there is still a confused viewer somewhere out there in the ether, they continued with their endeavor. For the first part of the week, Vinny delivered lines of dialogue that ranged from vague – “That paternity test should be a lifetime ticket to happiness for you, Dougie and Hope.” – to downright slick, “Sometimes you gotta nudge things, make sure [things] work out the way you want them to.”

Then for the next few shows, Thomas (Matthew Atkinson) spent his off time flashing back to those same statements until he somehow managed to put the pieces together.

What followed was a series of back and forth text messages and irate phone calls between the men – which served no other purpose than to prove that Thomas shouldn’t have been typing said messages and making said calls and talking to himself, out loud, about the situation while STILL INSIDE the Forrester building.

And when Thomas finally forced a confrontation with Vinny and forced him into saying whether he finagled the tests or not, Vinny, unsurprisingly, said no. Funny that. At least Thomas didn’t put much stock in the confession.

Now, some of you may be wondering why in the world would Vinny, who spent the better part of 2020 trying to appeal to Thomas’ better angels, suddenly reverse course and do everything in his power to unite Thomas and Hope (Annika Noelle). And to you, we say that B&B has never been famous for character consistency…

But we are giving this soap a pass…this time. Vinny’s character swerve has laid the groundwork for some potentially extra juicy storylines and we can’t wait to see what happens next.

Further BB Musings

* Finn (Tanner Novlan) gets a cheer for his storming of the enemy camp and the vicious tongue lashing he gave Liam. But he also gets a jeer for his wondering, “Am I ever going to be able to look at that kid and think about how it’s not mine?” If that’s how he truly feels he needs to pack up and move on right here and right now.

* Though it appears the writers have completely forgotten about the Carter/Zoe/Zende/Paris storyline, it goes without saying that we have not. We want to know if Zoe (Kiara Barnes) actually managed to get through to Ridge (Thorsten Kaye) and convince him to speak to Carter (Lawrence Saint-Victor) on her behalf. And we’d much appreciate an update on the burgeoning romance between Paris and Zende (Delon de Metz).

It was such a shame to see Paris put in an appearance and be used as nothing more than another sounding board for Hope. But at least she did get some screen time.

* Wyatt to Katie: “Flo and I only grew up with our moms…The family that you guys had seemed like a dream to us. Can someone please remind the scriptwriting team that the Logan’s grew up in an economically challenged household and that the patriarch of the family abandoned them and his responsibilities? They weren’t living a life that should have been envied.

* The show has gone to great pains to show us the evolution of Vinny’s lucrative side hustle, re: drug dealing, so we’re pretty sure there’s a much bigger story brewing, and we’d like to state, unequivocally, that we’re here for it! The Bold and the Beautiful weekdays on CBS.
