The Bold and the Beautiful actor Matthew Atkinson is tackling an incredibly powerful and challenging story as Thomas is fighting to keep control of his mental health. Viewers have seen Thomas’s decline as the Hope mannequin attempts to control more of his life.

‘Relaxing’ With Matthew Atkinson

Unwinding at the end of a demanding workday is important for everyone. How is Atkinson taking care of himself as he executes this important and compelling tale?

“Working out has always been a big stress relief for me,” the actor tells Soap Hub. “I can’t go without working out for very long or else I get kind of irritable. That definitely helps me with unwinding.”

While Thomas doesn’t have anyone to talk to these days, Atkinson says he hangs out with friends and family and keeps in mind “what’s important in life.” He adds that praying and meditating are things he tries to do on a daily basis. He says he’s grateful he’s able to “play make-believe for a living,” which he loves doing.

In addition to working out, Atkinson, as his Instagram followers can attest to, loves to get out and explore nature. “I go camping as often as I can,” he says. “I was a Boy Scout and an Eagle Scout as a part of my childhood and it’s become a huge part of my adulthood. It’s a beautiful thing when you get in touch with nature. It helps you get in touch with yourself.”

Last month, Atkinson traveled to June Lake in California to enjoy the outdoors. “Water temp about 50, outside temp in the 60s,” he posted, “so nice to escape the heat up in the mountains. Just chill-in’.”

Atkinson observes that in the grand scheme of things, human beings didn’t live the way they do now with so many modern conveniences. “You were out in the wilderness all the time,” he says, referring to past eras. “You weren’t in cities. You were out in nature.”

The actor also notes that it’s important to be around other people. “I haven’t been stuck by myself [during this pandemic],” Atkinson shares. “We’re creatures that need to go out and talk to people.” What’s going to happen next in Thomas’s tale? Stay tuned to find out. The Bold and the Beautiful airs weekdays on CBS. Check local listings for air times.
