Law & Order: SVU Sneak Peek Teases Trouble For Captain Olivia Benson

A lot of headlines have gripped our nation since Law & Order: SVU aired its last Season 21 episode on April 23, 2020, so it should be no surprise that the Season 22 premiere will have a lot to do with the social unrest that occurred with the state of policing in our country. This time, it hits close to home with beloved top cop, Captain Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay).

SVU showrunner Warren Leight retweeted a promo from the Twitter account SVU Diehards that gives us a heads-up about what our favorite squad will have to deal with in this all-new episode. The summary of the premiere reveals that when they investigate an assault in Central Park, the team’s hampered by their own blind spots and a community where their trust in the police is eroding.

As you can see in the promo below, it starts with a now-familiar clip of cell-phone captured video with a denial that the man did anything to “her” — but an arrest is made. Things promise to go downhill quickly as doubts arise about the perp’s guilt, probably thanks to the video. This worries ADA Carisi (Peter Scanavino), causing him to ask for confirmation that they indeed had enough probable cause to arrest the suspect.

What follows will be the squad closing ranks around Olivia, who insists they did everything by the book. Fin (Ice-T), as always, has his longtime co-worker’s back, insisting that the captain did nothing wrong. But outsiders are always used to the Blue Line backing each other up. Is this just a case of that or does everyone truly believe in Olivia’s innocence?

Especially critical will be Deputy Chief Christian Garland (Demore Barnes), and his searing words, telling her to get a lawyer, appearing to shake Olivia. What will happen next is sure to be must-watch television.
