The Bold and the Beautiful: Soap Hub’s Daytime Week In Review

Everybody’s got an opinion…especially where their favorite daytime drama is concerned – and Soap Hub is no different. For five days we sat and watched the good, the bad, and everything in between, and now we offer you a handy review, and a cheeky critique, of The Bold and the Beautiful’s week that was.

The Bold and the Beautiful: Week In Review

Apparently, Steffy’s (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) pregnancy came as a complete surprise to her. Ditto Liam (Scott Clifton). But we saw this coming the moment the two indulged in a spot of tequila-soaked hanky-panky.

What would have actually been surprising if they hadn’t gone the tried and true route? we get that the show wants to incorporate the actress’ss real-life pregnancy into the show, but surely there were better arcs to play here. At least Steffy has her list of possible baby daddies narrowed down to two: Liam or Finn. (There’s many a series heroine who’s struggled to get that close to the truth.)

Let’s hope that Finn (Tanner Novlan) comes out the winner because it’s hard to like or root for Liam. He’s always been a whiny waffler. When the going got tough with Hope (Annika Noelle) he turned to Steffy. And the reverse is also true. It’s all so…predictable. And very Liam.

What’s not so predictable and boring is the 180-degree turn that Thomas (Matthew Atkinson) seems to have made. He’s actually apologizing, taking responsibility for his actions, and he’s even giving Liam props. The only problem is that Thomas isn’t exactly a character you can trust.

He’s said all these same things before…and he didn’t mean them then. So, can we take him at face value now? He’s STILL breaking his neck in an attempt to insinuate himself into Hope’s life and career, so that’s a bit suspect.

Maybe the instinct to doubt his sincerity comes from the fact that he has yet to pay for the role he played in Emma Barber’s death. It was straight-up manslaughter, and that young woman has never received a bit of the justice she is due.

And while we’re on the subject of people who are difficult to like and trust, let’s talk about Zoe Buckingham (Kiara Barnes). She entered the fray as a cross-continent stalker who couldn’t let go of Xander Avant, then she involved herself in the whole Baby Beth/Baby Phoebe fiasco.

Now, she’s a top model with a fiancée who treats her like a goddess, and still, she’s not satisfied. She wants a back-up plan, and that back-up plan’s name is Zende Forrester (Delon de Metz). But he’s way more interested in her sister, Paris (Diamond White). We’re going to say it was the impassioned plea from him to her to stay put at Forrester coupled with the kiss that followed that tipped us off.

And all of that really sticks in Zoe’s craw. Because she’s selfish. And totally insecure. And just an all-around bad person.

Further BB Musings

When choosing baby names, perhaps Liam and Steffy should consider ‘Complicated Miracle.’ They used the phrase and especially the world miracle a whole lot during that little tete-a-tete. It really does have a nice ring to it – Complicated Miracle Spencer.

When Carter (Lawrence Saint-Victor) mentioned that he had, “firsthand experience,” when it came to complicated sibling relationships, did you momentarily scratch your head and wonder what he meant? After all, it’s been AGES since Marcus has been mentioned let alone seen. Does Donna (Jennifer Gareis) even keep in touch with her son? Probably not. She’s way too busy playing nanny to Hope’s offspring.

Do you think there is ANY truth in Zoe’s claims that Paris is the type to insinuate herself into her sister’s life and ‘move in’ on her territory? So far, Paris seems like a solid citizen and not the kind who makes a habit of going all Single White Female on somebody.

But, then again, this is a soap opera. Character swerves are part and parcel of the genre. The Bold and the Beautiful airs weekdays on CBS. Check your local listings for airtimes.
