Everybody’s got an opinion…especially where their favorite daytime drama is concerned – and Soap Hub is no different. For five days we sat and watched the good, the bad, and everything in between, and now we offer you a handy review, and a cheeky critique, of The Bold and the Beautiful’s week that was.
The Bold and the Beautiful: A Critic’s Week In Review
There’s just something so satisfying about watching characters take responsibility for their actions…or, at the very least, be FORCED into doing so. Say what you will about Liam (Scott Clifton) – and Lord knows there’s a LOT of disparaging things that can be said about this man – but at least he’s owning his mistake. Maybe it’s all the years of practice?
Steffy’s (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) also owning up to her part in this whole messy paternity pickle – but she wasn’t about to let Brooke “I got knocked up by daughter’s husband” Logan Forrester (Katherine Kelly Lang) come into her house and hurl factual statements at her.
Thomas (Matthew Atkinson) continued to push for Hope (Annika Noelle) to forgive Liam, and continued to acknowledge the errors of his past…and yet it’s still just way too hard to believe that this dude is genuine. And that’s just the way we like it. It keeps us guessing and is just the type of soapy goodness we need cause not knowing a character’s motives often leads to surprises.
It’s also really hard to feel sorry for Carter (Lawrence Saint-Victor). Sure, he didn’t deserve to have his heart broken by Zoe (Kiara Barnes), but that’s kinda what he gets for proposing to a woman mere weeks after asking her to move in with him, which he did mere minutes after they had their first proper date.
And even though Zoe was clearly, clearly in the wrong, it did seem just a tad harsh for Carter to outright accuse her of being a gold digger only interested in the prestige that snagging a “Forrester-adjacent” man would bring her. Zoe might be a cyberbullying, narcissist with obsessive tendencies, but she never really struck us as the gold-digging type.
What she is, however, is someone who’s incapable of truly accepting responsibility for her own actions. Case in point: her attempt to blame Carter’s dismissal of her on Paris (Diamond White).
Luckily for Paris – and for us viewers – she wasn’t about to let Zoe come into her office and force her out of her job. Her defiant shredding of the resignation letter Zoe provided her provoked cheers and few rounds of applause. Paris is a breath of fresh air and we don’t want to see her going anywhere.
Further BB Musings
* Why oh why was that potentially searing confrontation between Brooke and Steffy, the one in which Steffy very nearly read her stepmother for filth, shorthanded into a simple “don’t even” exchange?
* Though any appearance by Vinny (Joe LoCicero) is a welcomed one, what’s with the insistence on painting him as a drug pushing, bad idea giving louse?
* Now that Carter’s a single man, any chance that the show might actually explore a romance between him and a clearly-smitten Donna (Jennifer Gareis)? Or is his being the adopted brother of Donna’s biological son a little too off-putting? The Bold and the Beautiful airs weekdays on CBS. Check your local listings for airtimes.
