Fans of The Bold and the Beautiful were excited when Jack Wagner recently brought Nick back to the show. He and Brooke have a long history together, as well as a son named Jack. Nick told her he’s been keeping tabs on things in Los Angeles, and was aware that Ridge dumped her for Taylor. The two kissed, and it looks like her efforts to win Ridge back have been derailed. Wagner opened up about what Nick’s primary motivation is.
A Long Overdue Change
Wagner spoke with Today to discuss his return to B&B. He explained that Nick is, “Going to step in and try to wake Brooke up to this toxic pattern she’s been in with Ridge for years and years.” It certainly has been a triangle that’s gone on for far too long between Brooke (Katherine Kelly Lang), Taylor (Rebecca Budig), and Ridge (Thorsten Kaye), and a shakeup has been long overdue.
The actor explained that Nick’s goal is to wake Brooke up and let her know that he still loves her, “and I want you to step out of this insanity.” Although Nick has been involved with Brooke’s sisters, Donna (Jennifer Gareis) and Katie (Heather Tom), and her daughter, Bridget (Ashley Jones), he keeps returning to Brooke, who was his first love, says Wagner.

He Needed an Upgrade
Wagner also explained that for this return, Nick needed to level up. He told executive producer Brad Bell that Nick’s wardrobe needed to change. He stated, “I think the key here is masculine. This has to be real masculine, confident energy from Nick.” This is because the actor wanted to see that his character had progressed since the last time he was on the show.
He stated that because Nick is now a major shipping magnate who runs the international company, Marone Industries, “I really felt he needed to upgrade from living on the Shady Marlin (his boat). Like he wasn’t this scruffy, bearded, smoking sea captain anymore.” He was thankful to work once again with Lang and praised Bell for integrating character details and dialogue changes that he tailored for his character.
